#16 Roanoke Downs #3 Stevenson in Overtime on Tuesday, 14-13
SALEM - In a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season, the #16 Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated #3 ranked Stevenson University in Kerr Stadium, 14-13 in overtime on Tuesday. The Maroons now have a record of 9-3 while the Mustangs pick up just their second loss of the season, now sitting at 11-2.

The all-time series between the two teams currently sits at 3-3, with Roanoke winning the last two meetings. This is the second game between the squads that has gone to over time and the third that has a goal differential of just one.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. With 7:44 on the clock in the first quarter, Will Pilat netted the first goal for the Maroons, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1. With 2:52 to play in the first, Stevenson's Billy Burgoyne scored a man up goal to end the first period with a Mustang 3-1 lead.

Stevenson scored the first goal in the second quarter as well as Mark Pannenton caught a pass from Brent Hiken to extend the lead to 4-1 in just the first moments of the period. Just moments later, Conner DuBois scored an unassisted goal to bring the Maroons back within two. Will Pilat scored his second goal of the game to cut the deficit to one, 4-3. In just seconds, Stevenson scored two goals to widen the gap back to three goals. Joey Dishaw and Conner DuBois each scored in the remaining minutes of the second quarter, to end the first half with Stevenson ahead 7-5.

Richard Lachlan scored the first goal of the second half off of a pass from Tyler Cockey. After that point, both Stevenson and Roanoke scored three more goals each in the third period, keeping Roanoke at a one goal defecit, 10-9, entering the final quarter in regulation. Roanoke started out the fourth quarter with three consecutive goals, as Mike Hayden, Spencer Parsons and Lachlan tallied goals to take a 12-10 lead, going ahead for the first time in the entire contest. However, Stephenson scored three straight goals of its own to reclaim the one goal lead that it had to start the period. With 1:20 to play, Lachlan netted the game tying goal off of a pass from Mike Hayden. Lachlan's goal sent the contest into overtime, played in the golden goal format. Just a few minutes into the overtime period, Lachlan scored his fourth goal of the game, and the game winner, off a dish from Joey Dishaw, as Roanoke defeated #3 Stevenson 14-13 on Tuesday.

Richard Lachlan led the Maroons in scoring, netting four goals for the home team. He was followed in scoring by Conner DuBois who tallied three goals on eight shots. Tyler McWilliams, Tyler Cockey and Mike Hayden each finished with two assists on the night. Charles Pease played all 62:40 minutes in goal, tallying 17 saves.

The Mustangs were led by three players with three goals each: Chris Dashiell, Mark Pannenton, Tyler Reid. Dashiell also had a team high three assists. Kevin Cain was tabbed with the loss after playing 49:51 in goal, tallying nine saves and allowing 13 goals.

Stevenson led in many statistical categories including face-offs (23-8), ground balls (47-33), shots (56-44) and shots on goal (30-28). The Maroons led the contest in clears (21-15) and saves (17-14).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 10th as they travel to face Bridgewater in Old Dominion Athletic Conference Action. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
