This past Friday afternoon, Roanoke College hosted its 12^th Annual Relay for Life on campus to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The Men's Lacrosse team raised over $1,300 for the event and was one of the top fundraising groups of the entire event.

The Roanoke College Relay for Life event involved over 300 participants and raised about $23,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Men's Lacrosse team came out before their evening practice to walk laps around the quad, play a few games and to support the cancer survivors taking part in the “Survivor Lap.”

“It's very important to remain involved in community service on a campus like Roanoke College,” said head men's lacrosse coach Bill Pilat. “I'm sure there's not a single person on our team who hasn't known someone affected by cancer, and this is just one of the many ways that we were able to give back.”

At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Relay teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Relay events are up to 24 hours in length and, because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
