#16 Maroons Rally Late To Defeat Hampden-Sydney on Saturday
SALEM - A fourth quarter rally by the #16 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team maintains the team's unblemished ODAC record. The Maroons now have a record of 11-3; 7-0 ODAC, while the Tigers, who received votes in the latest USILA poll, sits with a mark of 9-4; 4-2 ODAC.

Through the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, Hampden-Sydney and Roanoke traded three goals each, back-and-forth, as Spencer Parsons, Conner DuBois and Nick wolf scored for the Maroons. The Tigers closed the first period with three consecutive goals, scored by Jess Hawthorne, James Hughes and Thomas Armstrong. After one quarter, Hampden-Sydney held a 6-3 lead.

The Maroons held the Tigers scoreless in the second quarter, as the Maroons netted three goals in the period. DuBois scored two goals, while Clarke Lewis tallied one. At half, Roanoke had squared the game up at 6-6. Hampden-Sydney returned the favor in the third quarter, blanking Roanoke and scoring two of its own. Entering the fourth, Hampden-Sydney held an 8-6 advantage.

The Maroons and Tigers traded a goal each for the first three minutes of the game, with Parsons netting Roanoke's goal. Hampden-Sydney went on to score two more goals from Hawthorne and Eric Gorsline, claiming an 11-7 advantage with 10:27 to play in the contest. The Maroons started to rally as Seth Fortmann scored with 7:30 to play, as well as Will Pilat netting a man-up goal to get within two. Richard Lachlan found the back of the net twice in a row to tie the game at 11-11. Just 15 seconds after Lachlan's last goal, Tyler McWilliams scored the game winner as the Maroons defeated Hampden-Sydney 12-11 in Kerr Stadium.

Conner DuBois led the Maroons in scoring with three goals, while Spencer Parsons and Richard Lachlan had two each. Five different Roanoke players finished with one assist each. Clarke Lewis led all players in the game with seven ground balls. Charles Pease played all 60 minutes in goal, tallying 16 saves.

Hampden-Sydney's Jess Hawthorne led all player in scoring with four goals. He was followed by James Hughes, who had two. Thomas Armstrong finished the game with four assists. David Noftsinger picked up the loss, tallying 10 saves.

The Maroons won 15 face-offs to Hampden-Sydney's 11, while the Tigers held the advantage in shots, 40-34. Roanoke also led in ground balls (41-33) and saves (16-10).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 17th as they travel to face Guilford College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
