Roanoke Ousted by #13 Lynchburg in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament
SALEM --- Roanoke College fell to Lynchburg College, 12-9 in the second round of the NCAA Div. III Men's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday night at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons, ranked #7 in the USILA Coaches' poll, finished the year 16-4 while the Hornets improve to 14-5 and will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Lynchburg, ranked #13 in the USILA poll, travel to Baltimore, MD to take on #3 Stevenson (19-2), who defeated Washington College (MD) 17-13 Saturday evening. The loss snapped a 13-game win-streak for the Maroons, which was the longest since the 2009 season.

Roanoke, which has a 34-8 series lead over their ODAC-rival, defeated the Hornets, 9-8 in the regular season meeting in Lynchburg.

The Hornets scored the first two goals of the game before Mike Hayden and Michael Lintner netted the first two goals for the Maroons to tie the contest. Just before the end of the first quarter, Joey Dishaw tied the game once more with 47 seconds remaining to tie the score at 3-3.

The Maroons and Hornets exchanged three goals apiece with tallies by Tyler McWilliams, Clarke Lewis, and Spencer Parsons for Roanoke to go into the half with a 6-6 tie.

Roanoke scored two of the three goals to begin the second half with goals from McWilliams and Chad Smith to take an 8-7 advantage midway through the third quarter. Lynchburg scored back-to-back goals late in the period as the Hornets went into the final 15-minutes with a slim 9-8 lead.

From there, it was all Lynchburg as the Maroons allowed three unanswered goals in a matter of minutes to pull away late. Troy Grogan scored a man-up goal off an assist from Conner DuBois for the final tally of the night.

Lynchburg scored two goals within a 10-second span to extend the lead to 11-8 with 13:35 left in the fourth. Roanoke mustered just one goal in the final 25 minutes of the game. ODAC Player of the Year Richard Lachlan, who is the teams' leading scorer, was held scoreless for the first time this season.

Charlie Pease made 13 saves for Roanoke, while Adam Davey collected 15 for Lynchburg to earn the win in goal.
McWilliams scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead the Maroons, followed by Hayden with one goal and an assist.

Lynchburg held a 51-39 advantage in shots, while Roanoke topped the Hornets in ground balls (36-30) and was 2-for-4 in man-up opportunities. Both teams won 12 face-offs each.
