#13 Maroons Fall to #10 Denison 12-4 on Wednesday Afternoon
SALEM – The #13 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team fell to #10 Denison University, 12-4 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons now sit with a record of 0-2, while the Big Red is 3-0 to start the season.

Denison got on the board first, as Luke Walsh scored off of a pass from Teddy Powell to take a 1-0 lead early.  Roanoke answered at the 7:11 mark, as Kevin Jackson tied the game with a goal at 7:11, assisted by Chad Smith.  Denison scored shortly thereafter to take the lead again as Austin Campbell scored an unassisted goal.  After the first quarter, the Big Red led 2-1 over the Maroons.

Denison held Roanoke scoreless in the second quarter, putting up five goals over the 15 minute span.  Goals from the Big Red in this quarter came from Chapin Speidel, Walsh, Nick Caravana, Liam Rooney and James Meager.  At halftime Roanoke trailed by six, 7-1.  The Maroons posted the first goal of the second half at the 11:57 mark, as Kevin Jackson scored his second goal of the night, this time unassisted.  The Big Red potted three more in the back of the net over the next two minutes, with goals by Powell, Campbell and Eddie Vita.

With 7:56 to play in the third quarter, Jackson completed his hat trick, scoring another unassisted goal, cutting the deficit to seven, 10-3.  Seth Fortmann followed with a goal at the 3:16 mark, assisted by Tyler McWilliams to give the Maroons their fourth goal of the afternoon.  At the end of three, Roanoke trailed Denison 10-4.  The Big Red held the Maroons scoreless in the fourth quarter, as Eddie Vita scored Denison's two goals in the final 15 minutes, as Roanoke fell to Denison 12-4 on Wednesday.

Kevin Jackson led the Maroons with three goals scored, while Seth Fortmann scored Roanoke's fourth.  Tyler McWilliams and Chad Smith each finished with an assist.  Jackson also led the Maroons in shots with six, five of which were on goal.  Charles Pease played all 60 minutes between the pipes, making 25 saves on the afternoon.
Denison was led in scoring by Eddie Vita, who scored three goals, while Luke Walsh and Austin Campbell each finished with two goals.  Liam Rooney dished out a team high two assists.  Blair Farinholt led the squad with eight shots.  Chris Thomas played all 60 minutes, making five saves.

Denison led the Maroons in shots (51-21), face offs (16-4) and ground balls (44-28).

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, March 2nd as they travel to Dallas, TX to face off against Colorado College.  The will then play Southwestern University on March 5th in Georgetown, TX.  Both games are part of Roanoke's spring break travel trip to Texas.
