Maroons Pull Ahead in Second Half, Hold On To Defeat #15 Dickinson On Saturday
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated #15 ranked Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon by the score of 11-8.  The Maroons now have a record of 3-2, while the Red Devils sit with a mark of 2-3.

The Maroons are currently on a three game winning streak, having defeated Colorado College and Southwestern over the past week.  This is the first time that the Maroons have defeated the Red Devils since the 2008 season, where Roanoke won 14-8.  This is also the first nationally ranked team the Maroons have defeated this season, having previously faced off against #16 St. Mary's and #10 Denison.

Dickinson jumped out of the gate early, scoring the first goal of the game at the 14:10 mark, as Tyler Llewellyn found the back of the net.  Just nine seconds later, Brian Gleason scored off of a pass from Carter Moore to give the Red Devils a 2-0 lead.  Less than two minutes later, Will Scott had an unassisted goal for Dickinson claiming a 3-0 lead within the first three minutes of the game.

The Maroons responded at the 6:49 mark in the first quarter, as Will Pilat scored Roanoke's first goal with an assist from Kevin Jackson.  Tyler McWilliams scored for the Maroons with 56 seconds to play in the quarter, pulling Roanoke within one, 3-2.  Neither team advanced ground on the other in the second quarter, as each team alternated to score three goals apiece.  Roanoke's goals came from Spencer Parsons, McWilliams and Kevin Jackson.  At halftime, the Maroons still trailed by one, 6-5.

Goals were scarce for the opening minutes of the second half.  The first goal of the third quarter came as a man-up goal from Chad Smith, tying the game at 6-6.  Spencer Parsons followed suit just 24 seconds later by giving the Maroons their first lead of the game, 7-6.  Dickinson's Scott tied the game up with 1:56 left in the quarter.  The tie only held for another minute as Jackson netted a goal with an assist from Jackson to enter the fourth quarter with a 8-7 Roanoke advantage.

Roanoke widened the lead early in the fourth quarter, with McWilliams scoring his third goal of the game with an assist from Joey Dishaw.  Jackson and Smith each scored once more through the 6:22 mark, putting the Maroons ahead by four, 11-7.  Dickinson only scored one more goal with 1:29 to play as Kevin Leary slipped one past the keeper in a man-down situation.  But, the Maroons held on in the final minutes to defeat #15 Dickinson, 11-8.

Kevin Jackson and Tyler McWilliams led the team with three goals each, while Jackson finished with two assists for a total of five points.  Will Pilat led the Maroons in assists with three.  Max Kraus, Pilat and Michael Lintner each topped the team with four ground balls each, while seven separate Maroons tallied one forced turnover.  Charles Pease played all 60 minutes in net and tallied 12 saves.

On the Red Devils' side, they were led in scoring by Tyler Llewellyn and Will Scott who netted two goals each.  Brian Cannon, Carter Moore and Ace Sudah each finished with one assist.  Carter Moore, Dickinson's face-off specialist was 15-22 in faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls.

Dickinson had a narrow edge on ground balls (37-35), while the Maroons tallied 30 shots to the Red Devils' 27.  Roanoke also had less turnovers (15) than Dickinson did on Saturday afternoon (19).
