Men's Lacrosse Falls to #5 Stevenson on Saturday
OWINGS MILL, MD – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team fell to #5 ranked Stevenson University on Saturday evening.  The Maroons now have a record of 4-3, while the Mustangs sit with a mark of 5-1.
 
Roanoke struck first in the game, as Tyler McWilliams scored with 2:23 to play in the first quarter.  He scored off of a pass from Colin Mackenzie, taking a 1-0 lead after 13 minutes of scoreless play between the two teams.  Billy Burgoyne scored the tying goal in the period with 1:41 on the clock, assisted by Stephen Banick.  Just 40 seconds later, Joe Balestrieri scored an unassisted goal to take the lead before the end of the quarter, 2-1 in favor of Stevenson.
 
Roanoke and Stevenson traded two goals each over the first nine minutes of the second quarter.  Roanoke's goals came as a pair of man-up goals from Colin Rossano, assisted by Kevin Jackson, and Will Pilat with 6:36 on the clock.  Stevenson would go on to score two more goals before the end of the half.  The first came as a man-up goal from Glen Tomkins, assisted by Toni Rossi.  The other came from Balestrieri, giving the Mustangs a 6-3 advantage.  Kevin Jackson scored the final goal of the half with 58 seconds left on the clock.  As the teams finished the half, Roanoke trailed Stevenson 6-4.
 
The third quarter was the highest scoring period of the game.  Stevenson scored the first three goals of the period, taking a 9-4 lead with 12:00 to play in the quarter.  Roanoke answered with three goals of its own.  Joey Dishaw scored off of an assist from Colin Mackenzie, just 18 seconds after the last Stevenson goal.  Less than 40 seconds later, Spencer Parsons scored an unassisted goal for the Maroons.  Tyler McWilliams netted a goal with an assist from Pilat to bring the Maroons back within two, 9-7.  Stevenson came back just 16 seconds after McWilliams' goal to score with a man-up goal from Colin Dabney.  After another 16 second span, Tyler Fuhrman scored his second of the game, putting the Mustangs ahead by four, 11-7.
 
Roanoke kept fighting back against the Mustangs.  With 8:15 to play, Colin Rossano scored his first goal of the game, assisted by McWilliams.  30 seconds later, Kevin Jackson scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Joey Dishaw.  Jackson would pot one more at the 4:31 mark, bringing the Maroons within one, 11-10.  Stevenson's Tyler Fuhrman scored with four seconds left in the third, giving the Mustangs a two goal lead entering the fourth quarter.
 
Only one goal was scored in the fourth quarter, coming from Tyler McWilliams in the final two minutes of the game.  McWilliams goal was assisted by Chad Smith.  However, as the only goal in the quarter, Roanoke fell to #5 Stevenson, 12-11 on Saturday.
 
Kevin Jackson and Tyler McWilliams led the Maroons in scoring with three goals each, followed by Colin Rossano with two goals.  Colin Mackenzie and Chad Smith led the squad with two assists each, while four Maroons finished with one assist each.  McWilliams and Max Kraus led the team with three ground balls each.  Charles Pease played 59 minutes in goal, picking up 18 saves in the game.
 
Tyler Fuhrman led the Mustangs with three goals, while four different players on the team had two goals each.  Brent Hiken led the team with eight ground balls, followed by Callum Robinson with five.  Dimitri Peceunes played all 60 minutes in goal, finishing with nine saves.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 19th as they host Randolph College at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
