Men's Lacrosse Wins ODAC Opener Over Randolph, 16-7
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team picked up a win in its Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener against Randolph College, 16-7 on Wednesday night.  The Maroons now have a record of 5-3, 1-0 ODAC, while the WildCats sit with a mark of 3-2, 0-1 in ODAC play.
 
The Maroons are unbeaten all-time against Randolph College, having built a 5-0 series record against the WildCats.
 
Will Pilat scored the first goal for the Maroons at the 9:51 mark in the first period, getting Roanoke out to a 1-0 start.  After a eight minute scoring drought, James Fisher found the back of the net for the Maroons, scoring off of an assist from Kevin Jackson at 1:42.  Just 30 seconds later, Tyler McWilliams got in on the action, scoring an unassisted goal of his own.  Pilat netted his second goal of the game 20 seconds after the previous goal, assisted by Wes Pancoast.  After the first quarter, Roanoke led 4-0 over the WildCats.
 
Randolph's Colton Wood scored the WildCats first goal of the game at 13:15 in the second quarter.  A little under a minute later, Colin Rossano scored his first of the game, putting the Maroons back ahead by four, 5-1.  Off the faceoff, the Maroons were able to score in the next 10 seconds, as McWilliams tallied his second goal.  Clark Lewis added another at 10:35, with Ronaoke now leading 7-1.   Randolph tallied a goal at 4:57 from Andrew Risse off of a pass from Mitch MacDonald.  Randolph's goal looked to be the last of the half, until McWilliams brought the ball in and ran the length of the field, slipping the ball past the keeper with one second on the clock, as Roanoke entered halftime with an 8-2 lead.
 
The Maroons scored two goals to start the second half, with one from Kevin Jackson (assisted by Colin Mackenzie), and the other from McWilliams, unassisted.  Randolph potted two more in the fifth minute, getting back within six, 10-4.  Pilat and McWilliams each scored a goal in the final five minutes of the third quarter, with McWilliams dishing out the assist on the Pilat goal.  After three, Roanoke led by eight 12-4.
 
In the final quarter, Randolph's Wood tallied a goal in the first two minutes, cutting the defecit to seven, 12-5.  The WildCats scored another at 9:51 from Mitch McDonald.  The Maroons took the next eight minutes to score four consecutive goals from four different players.  Joey Dishaw, Colin Rossano, Joseph King and Cameron Linsley all found the back of the net in the fourth quarter, pushing Roanoke's advantage to 10, 16-6.  Just as Roanoke had done in the end of the second quarter, Randolph's Wood scored with one second on the clock, as Roanoke picked up the 16-7 win in the ODAC opener.
 
The Maroons were led in scoring by Tyler McWilliams who tallied five goals on the evening.  He was followed in scoring by Will Pilat who notched three goals in the contest.  Jonathan Paige led the Maroons in ground balls with seven, followed by James Fisher with five.  Pilat led the team in shots with 12, 10 of which were on goal.  Charles Pease played 45 minutes between the pipes, tallying 12 saves.
 
Randolph was led in scoring by Colton Wood, who scored three goals in the contest.  Baden James, Wood and Mitch Macdonald each finished with one assist apiece.  Mathew Bray finished with a team high five ground balls, followed by Wood with four.  Cam Davis was tabbed with the loss in 59 minutes of play time, tallying 23 saves in the game.
 
The Maroons outshot the WildCats 58-28, with a high of 22 shots in the first quarter.  Roanoke also led in ground balls (53-28), while the WildCats led in saves 23-9.
 
Roanoke returns to action on Saturday, March 22nd as the Maroons travel to Virginia Beach to play Virginia Wesleyan.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
