Men's Lacrosse Defeats Virginia Wesleyan 19-14 on Saturday
VIRGINIA BEACH – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team won its second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference game, defeating Virginia Wesleyan 19-14 on Saturday.  The Maroons now have a record of 6-3, 2-0 in the ODAC, while the Marlins have a mark of 5-2, 1-1 ODAC.

The Maroons held Virginia Wesleyan scoreless in the first period, while still putting up seven goals of their own.  Spencer Parsons started the scoring within the first minute of the game, scoring an unassisted goal.  Tyler McWilliams followed with two unassisted goals of his own, both just eight seconds apart from one another.  Will Pilat got in on the action and tallied three straight goals over a six-minute span.  Pilat's goals were assisted by Chad Smith, Marquis Terrell and McWilliams.  Roanoke's final goal of the period came at 5:47 as Colin Mackenzie scored an unassisted goal, giving the Maroons a 7-0 lead.

The Maroons continued the scoring in the second quarter as Joey Dishaw found the back of the net at the 13:04 mark.  It was at this point the Marlins scored their first goal, as well as going on a streak of their own.  At 10:37, Nick Pappas scored an unassisted goal.  Just seven seconds later, Virginia Wesleyan's Jason Tutchon scored as well, pulling within six, 8-2. Nick Pappas went on to score two more consecutive goals through the 7:33 mark.  Andre Brummit capped off the Marlins' five goal run with a goal assisted by Tim Gunn.  Pilat scored once more with 2:09 to play, while Roanoke and Wesleyan traded one goal each in the final minute.  With Rossano's goal with 18 seconds to play, Roanoke entered halftime with an 11-6 lead.

Wesleyan opened the scoring in the second half, as Mike Moran scored off of a pass from Josh Currier, pulling within four, 11-7.  Roanoke responded with two goals, both from Mackenzie.  The first of Mackenzie's goals was assisted by Chad Smith, while the other was unassisted.  After Virginia Wesleyan scored two goals within the 10th minute, Roanoke scored two more goals of their own.  The first goal was from McWilliams, while Clarke Lewis slipped one past the keeper at 4:17 in the third.  Wesleyan scored one more in the quarter, this time from Evan Merrill, as the Marlins trailed by six, 15-9.  In the final 2:30, Roanoke potted the last two goals of the quarter, with goals from Spencer Parsons and Clarke Lewis.  After three quarters, Roanoke led 17-10.

Roanoke was outscored in the final quarter, 4-2.  The Marlins found goals from Pappas and John Roth, as well as a pair from Tim Gunn.  Roanoke's Chad Smith scored with 11:31 to play, while the Maroons' other goal came from Colin Rossano at the 2:50 mark.  Roanoke's lead from the first three quarters was too much for the Marlins to overcome as the Maroons stay undefeated in ODAC play with the 19-14 victory.

Roanoke was led in scoring by Will Pilat who netted four goals on the day.  He was followed by Colin Mackenzie, Tyler McWilliams and Colin Rossano, each netting three goals apiece.  Joey Dishaw, Chad Smith and Mackenzie dished out two assists each on the day.  James Fisher finished with a team high nine ground balls in the contest.  Charles Pease played all 60 minutes between the pipe, tallying 12 saves.

The Marlins were led in scoring by Nick Pappas who netted five goals on the afternoon.  Josh Currier was the team leader in assists, dishing out four during the contest.  Currier and Jason Tutchon picked up five ground balls each to lead the team in the category.  Rory Finnegan was tabbed with the loss, playing 30 minutes and making eight saves.
