Maroons Soar Past Eagles for Men's Lacrosse Win
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College fired 76 shots at the Bridgewater College net and saw 13 different Maroons score goals as the home side defeated the Eagles, 26-5, in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday in Salem. The win moves Roanoke to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in conference competition. Bridgewater falls to 5-7 and 0-5.

Seven of the Maroons' 13 goal scorers tallied multiple goals as 46 of the 76 attempts on BC's cage were on-goal. Bridgewater keeper Conor Lawson did his part for the Eagles' defense in stopping a season-high 20 shots, but Roanoke's attack proved relentless with Colin Rossano leading the charge with six goals towards eight total points. He attempted a game-high 11 shots.

With 95 combined shots and 31 total goals tallied, one would have thought the flood gates opened from the first whistle. But the contest remained scoreless until more than seven minutes had passed on the game clock. Spencer Parsons opened Roanoke's account at the 7:48 mark of the first period, only to see it equaled by a Matthew Arndt tally for Bridgewater.

After that, scoring came in bunches. Roanoke rattled off seven unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead with 49 ticks remaining on the first period timer. Thomas Maher stopped the bleeding for BC, notching the first of his team-best two goals with 16-seconds to go.

Roanoke broke the game open in the second stanza, shutting out the Eagles while registering 11 goals of its own to take a 19-2 advantage to the intermission. Eight different players scoring in the frame, with Rossano punching home three scores.

It was during the second period that Bridgewater was victimized by a series of man-up goals by Roanoke. Three of those scores came via one non-releasable penalty that saw the Maroons score three times 38-second period.

The Maroons' unanswered streak grew to 13 goals with two more extra-man goals from Rossano to start the second half. Robb Simmons finally moved the scoreboard for Bridgewater with a goal at the 5:40 mark. Roanoke tacked on two more tallies to lead, 23-4, going into the final quarter.

Bridgewater scored first in the second half with Jeff Strickland a man-up goal with 13:17 on the clock. Roanoke upped the ante with three more tallies of its own. The Eagles capped the game's scoring with 3:59 to play.

In addition to Rossano's eight-point day, eight other Maroons notched double figure points, led by four goals and three assists from Will Pilat. Reigning ODAC Player of the Week, Kevin Jackson, scored twice and dished out three helpers, while Joey Dishaw matched those numbers. Cam Ormiston scored twice and helped out on one other, while Nick Wolf tallied once and setup up two scores. Spencer Parson found the net twice, and Steven Jackson scored once and passed out an assist.

Saturday also served as Senior Day for eight Ronaoke men's lacrosse players. Those honored before the game were Michael Packo, Michael Lintner, Spenser Parsons, Gil Long, Charles Pease, Clarke Lewis, Jeff Dube and Marquis Terrell.

The Maroons return to action for their regular season finale at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, 19. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
