Maroons Blank #6 York In Fourth, Win 10-7 on Wednesday
YORK, PA – In the final quarter of Wednesday's men's lacrosse game, Roanoke outscored York 3-0 to pick up a big 10-7 win over the #6 ranked team in the country.  The Maroons now have a record of 2-1 on the season, while the #6 Spartans are 2-1 on the year as well.

The Maroons have gone up and down in the 2015 USILA standings over the past week, most recently dropping out of the polls, just two spots out of the top-20.  However, Roanoke can claim that they are 2-0 against ranked opponents so far this season.  The Maroons first defeated Denison, 13-11 on February 25th at home.  Then, Roanoke went on to defeat #6 York on Wednesday afternoon, 10-7 on the road.  The Maroons have another ranked team in #5 Stevenson who will play in Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Chad Smith scored the opening goal of the game, netting a goal with an assist from Kevin Jackson with 9:36 to play.  York answered a minute later as Dan Kaplan notched an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.  Over the next five minutes, Roanoke scored three consecutive goals to build a 4-1 advantage.  Will Pilat scored the first goal with the aid of Colin Mackenize.  Then, Kevin Jackson capped back-to-back unassisted goals in the span of two minutes.  York's Andrew Gamble closed the first quarter with a goal, pulling the Spartans within two, 4-2.

Gamble opened the second as he ended the first, however his second goal of the game was assisted by Dillon Hannah.  With 9:43 to play, York had closed the gap to just one goal.  Cam Linsley scored with 4:23 to play in the first half, taking an assist from Wes Pancoast, building the lead to two goals, 5-3.  The Spartans scored in the final second of the half when Matt Whitcher found the back of the net, entering halftime with a Roanoke 5-4 advantage.

York opened the second half with a Hannah goal, assisted by Ryan Cook.  Kevin Jackson put up his third goal of the game with 7:37 to play the quarter, assisted by Tyler Williams.  The Spartans netted a pair of goals, one from Andrew Warburton, the other from Dan Kaplan to take a 7-6 lead with 2:38 to play.  Will Pilat scored the equalizer with 1:56 left in the third, tying the game at 7-7.

Roanoke ran on all cylinders in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spartans 3-0.  Colin Mackenzie scored an unassisted goal at the 10:02 mark to score the game-winner.  Jackson earned his fourth goal with the help of Joey Dishaw at 9:52.  Roanoke's final goal of the game came from Tyler McWilliams on a man-up opportunity, fielding a pass from IV Stucker to give the Maroons the 10-7 victory over #6 York College.

Kevin Jackson led the Maroons in scoring on Wednesday, putting away four goals while notching one assist.  He finished with 11 shots, eight of which were on goal and three ground balls.  Jackson was also one of four Maroons who finished with two forced turnovers.  Will Pilat tallied two goals in the contest on four shots on goal.  He, along with Steven Jackson and Wes Pancoast led the team with three forced turnovers.  Cam Linsley and Conn Curry had a team-high four ground balls. Linsley led the team with six face off wins, while Curry and Max Kraus had one each. Dylan Torrey (2-1) picked up the win with the complete game victory, making nine saves in the contest.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Dan Kaplan and Andrew Gamble, who scored two goals each.  Gamble led the team in points as he also finished with one assist.  Josh Kluver led the team with six ground balls, while Tyler Hutson tallied five on the afternoon.  Kluver also had a team high four forced turnovers.  Jake Katchmark did all the face off work for York, going 11-19 on the afternoon.  Caleb Abney (2-1) played 50 minutes between the pipes and made 10 saves, while allowing eight goals.

Roanoke held a narrow advantage of 33-32 in ground balls, as well as leading in successful clears 16-14.  The Spartans won the face off battle winning 11 to the Maroons' eight.  Roanoke finished with 36 shots, while York fired off 28.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 7th as they play host to #5 ranked Stevenson University in Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
