Roanoke Cruises to 18-8 Win over Colorado College
SALEM -  The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated Colorado College 18-8 on Wednesday afternoon in the non-conference contest.  Roanoke now has a record of 4-2, while the Tigers are now 6-2 on the season.
 
Roanoke is now 5-0 all-time against Colorado College.  The Maroons also just snapped a six-game win streak for the Tigers.
 
The Maroons built an early four goal lead against the Tigers, starting with a goal from Cameron Linsley at the 11:58 mark in the contest.  Less than a minute later, Colin Mackenzie found the back of the net in a man-up opportunity, assisted by Kevin Jackson.  At 8:47, IV Stucker scored an unassisted goal.  Tyler McWilliams was the fourth Maroon to score, tallying a goal at 7:31.  The Tigers stopped the Roanoke run as Taylor Paul scored back to back goals through the 4:39 mark, pulling Colorado within two, 4-2.  The Maroons closed out the quarter with two more goals.  Reid Kaminski tallied the Maroons fifth goal on an unassisted effort at 4:22, while McWilliams notched his second of the game at 1:51.  After the first quarter, Roanoke led 6-2.
 
The Tigers started the second quarter with a goal from Jack McCormick, but Roanoke answered with two of its own.  Colin Mackenzie scored on a man up o goal, assisted by Kevin Jackson, while Will Carter potted one with an assist from Stucker.  At the half, Roanoke led 8-3.
 
Roanoke continued to roll in the third quarter, outscoring Colorado 4-1 in the period.  Will Pilat scored the first goal with an assist from Joey Dishaw.  After a Tiger goal, Mackenzie scored two back-to-back goals, one of which was assisted by Dishaw as well.  Kevin Jackson closed out the quarter with an unassisted goal in the final seven seconds.  After three quarters, Roanoke led 12-4. 
 
The fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter, as the teams combined for 10 goals.  Roanoke started with two goals in the first two minutes, with one from Dishaw and the other from Chad Smith.  After two Colorado goals, including Paul netting his third of the game, Dishaw scored for the second time in the quarter.  Colorado and Roanoke traded goals over the next two minutes, with Roanoke's coming from Chad Smith at the 6:04 mark.  Both teams went scoreless for the next five minutes, until Colorado's Dylan Davie broke the drought at 1:15.  The Maroons scored just a few moments later as Kaminski tallied his second of the night.  Will Pilat scored the last goal of the game at the buzzer, giving Roanoke an 18-8 win over Colorado College.
 
The Maroons were led in scoring by Colin Mackenzie, who finished with four goals off of six shots, all of which were on goal.  Joey Dishaw, Tyler McWilliams, Chad Smith, Will Pilat and Reid Kaminski all finished with two goals each.  Kevin Jackson led the squad in assists with three.  Max Kraus was the leader in ground balls with eight, while Conn Curry and Billy Newman had four each.  Dylan Torrey played the complete contest, finishing the game with seven saves.  Max Kraus won 13 of his 20 faceoff attempts to lead the team, while Cam Linsley was three for four.
 
Colorado was led in scoring by Taylor Paul with three goals, followed by Dylan Davie with two.  Paul and Davie also had the lone assists for the Tigers.  Tim Jenkins led the team in ground balls with four, followed by Ian Pelto with three.  John Tocchio forced two of the team's six turnovers on defense.  Chase Murphy played the complete game in net, finishing with 11 saves on 29 shots faced.
 
The Maroons led in face-offs during the game, winning 18 of 27.  Roanoke also outshot Colorado, 43-32.  The Maroons won the ground ball battle, picking up 41 to Colorado's 28.
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 21st as they play host to Hampden-Sydney in Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
