#19 Maroons Fall To #6 Battling Bishops on Tuesday
SALEM – The #19 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team fell to #6 ranked Ohio Wesleyan University, 23-6 on Tuesday.  The Maroons now have a record of 5-3 on the season, while the Battling Bishops are 8-0.
 
The Maroons and Bishops traded goals in the first minute of the contest.  Wesleyan's first goal came at the 14:12 mark, as Luke Leyden found the back of the net.  Just 10 seconds later, Tyler McWillams evened the score with a goal, after receiving a pass from Will Pilat.  Ohio Wesleyan tallied two more goals over the next six minutes, taking a 3-1 advantage.  Roanoke's second goal of the contest came at the 4:49 mark when Chad Smith tallied an unassisted goal.  The Bishops would score two more goals before the end of the quarter, as Roanoke trailed 5-1 after the first 15 miuntes. 
 
The Bishops scored three consecutive goals in the first seven minutes of the second quarter, including Luke Leyden's third goal of the game.  Joey Dishaw got the Maroons back within five goals after scoring on a pass from Colin Mackenzie.  Jimmy Kuzma scored Roanoke's fourth goal on an unassisted effort with 38 seconds to play in the half.  After 30 minutes of play, the Maroons were down by six, 10-4.
 
Roanoke scored once in the third quarter, as Kevin Jackson slipped one past the keeper on a man-up opportunity.  Jackson's goal came with an assist from Tyler McWilliams.  The Maroons would score once more with 2:17 to play in the fourth, with Colin Mackenzie connecting on a man-up opportunity, taking a pass from Will Pilat.
 
Six different Maroons scored one goal each in the 23-6 loss on Tuesday.  Will Pilat finished the contest with a team-high two assists.  The Maroons tallied 28 ground balls in the effort, with nine players picking up two ground balls apiece.  Kevin Jackson led the Maroons in forced turnovers with two.  Dylan Torrey played 48 minutes in net on Tuesday, tallying 15 saves.
 
The Battling Bishops were led in scoring by Luke Leyden with five goals, followed by Marcus Dietz and Edwin Foster with three apiece.  Dietz led the squad in assists, dishing out three in the win.  Dietz and Sam Gioseffi finished the game leading all players with five ground balls each.  Ryan McMahon played between the pipes for the complete game on Tuesday, making 14 saves.
 
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Roanoke 67-36, while also leading in face-off wins 20-12.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 25th as they travel to take on Randolph College on the road.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
