Men's Lacrosse Victorious on Senior Day
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated Shenandoah 21-6 in front of a large Alumni Weekend and Senior Day crowd on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-5, 5-2 in the ODAC, while the Hornets are 4-8, 0-5 in the ODAC.
 
Before the game, the Maroons celebrated nine seniors for Senior Day.  During their time on the team, the Maroons have amassed an overall record of 47-18, including an incredible 28-4 mark in ODAC play.  These Maroons have been part of a Roanoke team that has amassed three consecutive 10-win seasons.  This squad has won the program's 18th ODAC Championships and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 24th time, all in the 2013 season.  The seniors who were recognized were: Dylan Torey, Dale Smith, Chad Smith, Wes Pancoast, Seth Fortmann, Will Carter, Iles Mitchell, Cam Ormiston and Troy Grogan.
 
The Maroons outscored Shenandoah 4-1 in the opening quarter.  Roanoke scored the first goal at the 9:20 mark when Tyler McWilliams netted an unassisted goal.  Just a few minutes later, Shenandoah tied the game with a man-up goal by Connor Bishop.   Roanoke finished the quarter with three goals in the final five minutes.  Kevin Jackson scored two goals during that span, with one assisted by Steven Jackson, the other by Tyler McWilliams.  With 1:30 to play, Will Pilat scored his first goal of the day.
 
Roanoke ran away with the contest in the second quarter.  The Maroons scored 11 goals during that 15 minute span.  Will Pilat led the Maroons in scoring in the second, notching five goals.  Colin Mackenzie scored three goals, while IV Stucker, Will Carter and Tyler McWilliams potted one goal each.  By halftime, Roanoke had built a 15-1 lead.
 
Shenandoah broke the Roanoke scoring streak with a goal in the first minute-and-a-half of the third quarter.  The Maroons answered with four straight goals, by four different players: Jimmy Kuzma, Cam Linsley, Hayden Miller and Josh Sibio.  With 10:00 to play in the third, Roanoke led 19-2.  Shenandoah outscored Roanoke 3-1 in the remainder of the quarter, with Dale Smith scoring off of a pass from Chad Smith.
 
In the fourth quarter, Roanoke and Shenandoah scored one goal each.  Wes Pancoast scored the final goal of the game with 3:37 to play.  Roanoke picked up its second straight ODAC win with a 21-6 victory over Shenandoah.
 
Will Pilat led the Maroons with six goals, a career high for the junior.  Pilat also finished with one assist.  Colin Mackenzie tallied three goals, as well as dishing out one assist.  Tyler McWilliams had two goals, while a team high three assists.  Cam Linsley led the team in ground balls with seven, followed by Max Kraus and Reid Kaminski with five each.  Dylan Torrey played 45 minutes in goal and made four saves.
 
Shenandoah was led by Connor Bishop and Stephen Latona with two gaols each.  Tilghman Sanders finished with a team high two assists.  Dom Lombardi had nine ground balls to lead all players. 
 
The Maroons outshot Shenandoah 67-28, including a 41-9 advantage after the first half.  Roanoke also led in face-offs won, with a 24-9 lead.  The Maroons picked up 52 ground balls to Shenandoah's 34.
 
Roanoke returns to action on Wednesday, April 15th as they travel and take on Guilford College at 4:00 PM.
