Bill Pilat Earns 300th Career Victory With 14-4 Win Over Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER – Roanoke College men's lacrosse coach, Bill Pilat, won his 300th Career game with a 14-4 victory over Bridgewater College on Sunday afternoon.  The Maroons are 10-5, 7-2 in the ODAC entering the conference tournament, while the Eagles are 5-7, 1-6 in ODAC play.

Bill Pilat is the 15th men's lacrosse coach in all of NCAA Division I, II and III who has reached the extremely rare 300 win milestone.  Pilat and SUNY Cortland head coach Steve Beville both entered the season with 290 career victories, with both reaching the 300 win plateau in the same weekend.  Pilat, in his 26th season as head coach of Roanoke College has an all-time record of 300-128, which includes 17 10-win seasons, 10 ODAC Championships, and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.  The win today has set a new program record as well, by achieving the program's seventh consecutive 10-win season.

Roanoke is the first team this season to finish their nine Old Dominion Athletic Conference games.  The Maroons have finished the season with a conference record of 7-2, which currently seats them in the #3 seed in the ODAC Tournament.  The two teams who are ahead of the Maroons are Lynchburg (7-0) and Virginia Wesleyan (6-1), both of which have two games remaining in the regular season.  The Maroons cannot drop lower than third in the ODAC standings, but could move up to second if Virginia Wesleyan were to lose their next two games.

The Maroons scored two goals in the first 30 seconds of the second quarter.  Tyler McWilliams scored in the first eight seconds off of a pass from Will Pilat.  Conn Curry netted a goal at 14:32, taking an assist from Reid Kaminski.  Bridgewater scored two consecutive goals, with Jeff Strickland and Blake Mann alternating goal/assist duty.  Strickland scored the first goal at 8:14 with a Mann assist, while Mann scored the second at 5:58.  McWilliams scored his second goal of the game at 5:03, as Roanoke entered halftime with a 6-3 advantage.

The Maroons went on a 5-0 scoring streak to start the second half.  Will Pilat scored in the first 16 seconds off of a pass from Max Kraus.  Colin Mackenzie scored three of the next four goals for the Maroons with assists from Kevin Jackson and Cam Ormiston.  The fifth goal of the quarter was scored by Conn Curry with a McWilliams assist.  Bridgewater stopped the Roanoke scoring with a Kevin Ashcraft goal, but Cam Linsley scored one more in the quarter for the Maroons at 1:16, assisted by Colin Mackenzie.  Roanoke led 12-4 after the third quarter.

Roanoke scored just two goals in the fourth, one by Tyler McWilliams, assisted by Will Pilat, and the other by Jimmy Kuzma.  As the horn sounded, Roanoke boasted a 14-4 victory.

Colin Mackenzie scored five goals in the win on Sunday, dishing out one assist as well.  Tyler McWilliams and Conn Curry finished with three and two goals, respectively.  Kevin Jackson led the Maroons with three assists.  Cam Linsley picked up seven ground balls to lead the team, while Ilse Mitchell and Troy Grogan finished with four each.  Dylan Torrey picked up his 10th win in goal, playing all 60 minutes and tallied eight saves.

Bridgewater had four goals scored by four different players in the game.  Derrick Daniels, Chris Hughes and Lucas Clark led the team with three ground balls each.  Andrew Buss was tabbed with the loss in goal, making 25 saves on 29 shots faced.

The Maroons now await the remainder of the ODAC season to play out, waiting to see where they will land in the ODAC Tournament seeding.  The ODAC Quarterfinals will begin on Tuesday, April 28th at the higher seed, while the #1 and #2 seed teams will receive a bye to the Semifinals on May 2 at the #1 seed.
