Maroons Roll in ODAC Quarterfinal Win Over Guilford, 13-5 on Tuesday
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team breezed to a 13-5 victory over Guilford College on Tuesday night in the 2015 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Quarterfinals.  The Maroons advance to the semifinal game with a record of 11-5, while the Quakers are 10-6 to close the season.
 
With the win, the Maroons advance to the ODAC Semifinals, which are slated to take place at #1 seed Lynchburg College on Saturday, May 2nd.  The Maroons will face off against #2 seed Virginia Wesleyan, who Roanoke fell to at home on April 4th in a tight 17-15 loss.  The winner of Saturday's game will advance to play on Sunday against the winner of the game between #1 Lynchburg and #5 seed Washington & Lee.  The Maroons are on a roll right now, winning their last five games, where they have outscored their opponents 71-24. 

With his third goal of the night, junior Tyler McWilliams scored his 100th career goal.  McWilliams has already surpassed his season high total (35 in 2014), netting 36 goals this season.  With his 36 goals, McWilliams ranks sixth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in goals scored, as well as seventh in total points with 53.
 
The game got off to a slow start for both teams.  Roanoke scored the first goal at 8:37, as Tyler McWilliams netted an unassisted effort.  Guilford tied the game at 1-1, with a goal by Andrew McDonagh at 4:31.  Will Pilat broke the tie just 22 seconds later with an unassisted goal of his own.  Roanoke looked to end the quarter with a 2-1 lead, but Dylan Haupt scored with two seconds left to tie the game at 2-2.
 
The second quarter was a strong offensive period for Roanoke.  McWilliams netted the first goal of the quarter again, at 10:48, assisted by Steven Jackson.  Guilford's McDonagh scored another at 7:09, tying the game at 3-3, but Roanoke took over from there.  The Maroons scored four unanswered goals to end the half.  During that span, Kevin Jackson scored two, while Iles Mitchell and Colin Mackenzie had one each.  Stucker, Mackenzie and Pilat also picked up assists for those goals.  At the end of the first half, Roanoke led 7-3.
 
Roanoke held the Quakers to just one goal in the third quarter as well.  For the third time, Tyler McWilliams scored the first goal of the period, this time assisted by Mackenzie.  Guilford's Jace Sowden scored to break the Maroons scoring run, cutting the Quaker deficit to four, 8-4.  The Maroons revved up again, scoring the next five goals of the game, running through the 11:39 mark of the fourth quarter.  In these five goals, McWilliams scored two, while Pilat, Mackenzie and Dishaw potted one apiece.  The goals by pilat and Mackenzie were man up goals as well.  The Quakers scored the final goal of the game at 6:20 by Ian Wiesenberg, but Roanoke had pulled away for the win, 13-5.
 
The Maroons were led in scoring by Tyler McWilliams, who potted five goals on the evening.  In fact, McWilliams scored the first goal of every quarter, as well as the final goal in the third.  Kevin Jackson, Colin Mackenzie and Will Pilat all scored two goals each, while Mackenzie, Steven Jackson and IV Stucker led the squad with two assists a piece.  Max Kraus had a team high seven ground balls, followed by Pilat with five. Kraus went 10-for-12 on faceoffs, while Cam Linsley was 7-8 on faceoff duty.  Dylan Torrey played the complete game in net, tallying 12 saves in the win.

The Quakers finished with five goals, led by Andrew McDonagh with two.  Will Forrestal and Daniel Haupt each dished out one assist.  David Felipe had a team high ground balls, while Cole Woodward forced two turnovers to lead the team.  Thomas Deane was tabbed with the loss in goal, making 14 saves on the night.
 
The Maroons outshot Guilford 49-38, while holding the advantage in faceoffs, 17-3.  The Quakers had 20 turnovers to Roanoke's 17, and the Maroons led in ground balls 38-27.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, May 2nd as they will travel to Lynchburg to play #2 seed Virginia Wesleyan.  The time of that game has yet to be determined.
