Pancoast becomes the 81st Maroon to be selected for the USILA North-South Game since the program became a varsity sport in 1972. A player has represented Roanoke College at the game every year since 2006. Paul Griffin (1979) and Bill Pilat (1992, 2004) have been head coaches of the south squad, while Scott Allison served as an assistant coach in 1988.
Wes Pancoast, a defenseman from West Chester, PA, finished with an outstanding senior year for the Maroons. He has picked up several post-season accolades, including USILA Honorable Mention All-American honors announced earlier today. The three-time All-ODAC selection picked up First-Team All-conference honors this spring along with being named to the ODAC All-Tournament team. The senior scored one goal and had one assist for the Maroons, while ranked ninth in the ODAC in caused turnovers (21) and 15th in the ODAC in ground balls (48) in 18 games. Some key games for Pancoast this year were against #16 Denison, as Pancoast collected a season-high seven ground balls. He also collected six groundballs and forced four turnovers against Virginia Wesleyan and collected five ground balls against conference-rival Washington & Lee.
Roanoke College finished 12-7 overall, 7-2 in ODAC play. Roanoke was nationally-ranked for five weeks in the USILA Top-20 poll this spring. The 12 wins marks a record-setting seventh-straight 10-win season, en route to earning the programs' 25th trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Maroons had three players named to the 2015 USILA All-America team (Wes Pancoast, Will Pilat, Kevin Jackson), while six players were named to the All-ODAC squad this season. Defensman Con Curry was named ODAC Rookie of the Year. The Maroons finished third in the conference, advancing to the ODAC Championship game, falling to #4 Lynchburg. The Hornets (21-2) are playing in the NCAA Div. III National Championship game this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 4 p.m.
The 2015 USILA/LaxWorld Annual North-South All-Star Game will take place at Edith Rob Dixon Field at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA on Friday, May 22nd.
