Men's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, Tops Guilford 17-5
GREENSBORO, NC – The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated Guilford College 17-5 on Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference Action.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-5, 6-2 in the ODAC, while the Quakers are 9-3, 3-3 in ODAC play.
 
The Maroons have won their third consecutive ODAC contest, having previously defeated Washington & Lee and Shenandoah.  With one regular season game to play, the Maroons are currently sitting in fourth in the ODAC with a record of 6-2.  Sitting ahead of the Maroons are Lynchburg (6-0), Hampden-Sydney (5-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (5-1) with Bridgewater left to play against.
 
Guilford's Daniel Haupt scored the first goal of the game, but Roanoke responded with three consecutive goals to take an early 3-1 advantage.  Tyler McWilliams scored the first two goals with assists from Kevin Jackson and Colin Mackenzie.  Conn Curry scored the third goal at the 5:55 mark.  The Quakers' Jake Sadd stopped the Maroon streak, netting a goal 30 seconds later to get within one, 3-2.  Roanoke scored three goals in the final minute of the first quarter, to end the period with a 6-2 lead.  Jimmy Kuzma, Matt Railey and McWilliams all found the back of the net on unassisted goals.
 
In the second quarter, the Maroons scored two goals within 27 seconds of one another to extend the advantage to six goals.  Tyler McWilliams scored at the 9:37 mark off of a pass from Kevin Jackson, while Will Pilat scored his first of the night from Mackenzie.  Guilford answered Roanoke's two goals with two of their own.  Cam Davis and Daniel Hughey scored to get the Quakers back within four, 8-4 by the end of the half.
 
Chandler Zirkle scored for the Quakers in the first two minutes of the second half, cutting the team's deficit to three, 8-5.  However, the Maroons shut out Guilford for the remainder of the contest.  IV Stucker started the scoring at 12:31 in the third after a pass from Kevin Jackson.  Will Carter followed with a man-down goal two minutes later.  The final seven goals came from three players, as Pilat tallied four, Mackenzie had two and Kevin Jackson notched one.  After the final horn sounded, Roanoke earned a 17-5 win over Guilford.
 
For the second consecutive game, Will Pilat led the Maroons in scoring with five goals, adding on one assist as well.  He also finished with five ground balls.  Tyler McWilliams tallied four goals on the evening, with one ground ball.  Colin Mackenzie led in assists with four, notching two goals, while Kevin Jackson had three assists and one goal.  Dylan Torrey played the complete game with seven saves.
 
Five different Quakers scored during the game while the team's two assists came from Rufus Terry and Duncan Fitzgerald.  Connor Manning led the squad with six ground balls, and Cole Woodward had three forced turnovers.  Thomas Deane also played the full 60 between the pipes, tallying 11 saves on 28 shots faced.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, April 19th as they travel to face Bridgewater College.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
