The Lead: Christopher Newport outscored No. 11 Roanoke 6-1 in the second-half en route to an 11-7 win over the Maroons on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
- Roanoke came flying out of the gates, scoring just 18 seconds in when Joey Dishaw set up Tyler McWilliams to make it 1-0.
- The Maroons doubled their lead less than two minutes later when IV Stucker tallied an unassisted strike to make it 2-0.
- The Captains scored its first goal with just under seven minutes to go in the half to get on the board and would score twice more to make it 3-2.
- A Kevin Jackson goal sparked four unanswered strikes as the Maroons took a 6-3 lead on Colin Mackenzie goal with 12:48 to play in the second quarter.
- Christopher Newport closed the gap to 6-5 at halftime and then tied the game two minutes into the third quarter. Stucker scored again at the 8:19 mark of the third quarter to make it 7-6 before CNU closed the game on a 5-0 run.
- Roanoke outshot Christopher Newport 48-38, but put just 21 of those shots on goal. CNU's Matt Hayden made 14 stops in net.
- RC won 16-of-22 faceoffs with Reid Kaminski going 10-14 and Max Kraus winning 6-of-8. Roanoke won the groundball battle 38-25, with Kaminski grabbing a team-high six.
- Dishaw, Stucker and Will Pilat each had two points for RC, while Ryan Mills and Dave Magdeburger each had three goals for CNU.
