RC Lax Opens ODAC Play With 18-5 Win Over R-MC; McWilliams Notches 200th point

The Lead: Eight different Maroons scored as No. 13 Roanoke topped Randolph-Macon 18-5 in ODAC Men's Lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened:
  • A Kevin Jackson score 16 seconds into the game proved to be the first of seven unanswered, first quarter goals by the Maroons. Will Pilat scored three times along with Pickett Riehl and Tyler McWilliams in the first 15 minutes of action.
  • Ryan Davidson got R-MC on the board at the 13:18 mark of the second quarter before RC got back-to-back goals in less than a minute from Jackson and Pilat to make it 9-1.
  • The Yellow Jackets scored twice to make it 9-3, but a McWilliams tally with just 44 seconds to play in the half sent the teams to the intermission with RC leading 10-3.
  • Joey Dishaw scored 53 seconds into the second half and it was the first of four Roanoke goals in the opening five minutes of the third quarter with a Jimmy Kuzma score making 14-3.
  • Jackson led RC with six goals on the day followed by Pilat who had five goals and two assists for seven points. McWilliams scored twice and dished out three assists to become the 11th player in Roanoke Lacrosse history to reach 200 career points.
  • Fourteen different Maroons recorded at least one point and Roanoke outshot R-MC 53-23. RC won 22-of-26 face-offs with Reid Kaminski winning 12, while Max Kraus and John Heckler winning five and four, respectively. Kaminski also scooped up nine groundballs for the Maroons who had a 44-17 edge as a team in the win.
  • Four different goalies saw action for RC. Burke McManus made three saves, Ian Davies made four stops, while Connor Poss made one. Defenseman Robby Moore had four caused turnovers as well.
  • Kyle Keepers had three goals for R-MC, while Brian Davies made nine saves for the Yellow Jackets.

Up Next: Roanoke which is the middle of a three game home stand over the next seven days will host Christopher Newport at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. CNU is 4-1 on the season.
