The Lead: No. 13 Roanoke College used a nine goal second quarter en route to a 16-10 victory over Wittenberg in Colorado Springs on Wednesday afternoon.
 

How it Happened

  • The Maroons found themselves down 4-1 in the final seconds of the first quarter before Matthew Lintner scored with just 22 seconds left to make it 4-2.
  • RC scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter getting a strike from Brendan Devane 44 seconds in and then a Will Pilat tally just 10 seconds later to tie the game.
  • Wittenberg retook the lead just 10 seconds later before a Lintner goal at the 10:15 mark sparked seven unanswered goals by the Maroons to end the half. The last three goals of the run came in the final 1:20, the last of which coming off the stick of Reid Melillo with five seconds to go.
  • The Roanoke run that proved to be 10-0, stretched into the second-half when Lintner scored 15 seconds into the third quarter and was followed by goals by IV Stucker and Pilat that made it 14-5 with just over 11 minutes to go in the third.
  • Pilat led the Maroons with six points on the day, scoring four goals and adding two assists, while Stucker and Lintner each had three goals and two assists in the victory. Joey Dishaw also scored a goal and dished out three assists.
  • Nine different Roanoke players scored in the win, 12 registered at least one point and 29 Maroons saw action in the game.
  • Roanoke dominated each statistical category, outshooting Wittenberg 61-35. RC led in groundballs 45-22 with Reid Kaminski grabbing a team-high seven and Max Kraus scooped up five. The duo helped RC win 22-of-28 face-offs with Kraus winning 12 and Kaminski winning 10.
  • Burke McManus started in net for RC and made six saves. Ian Davies made five stops in the second-half for Roanoke. Aaron Blossey started for Wittenberg and made seven saves before Nick Gregory came in in the second-half and made 18 saves.
  • The Maroons converted 18-of-19 clears, while allowing Wittenberg to go 20-of-31. The RC man-up unit went 3-for-3.
