RC Claims No. 1 Seed in ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament With 14-9 Win Over Washington and Lee

The Lead: Roanoke claimed the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament with a 14-9 road win at Washington and Lee on Saturday behind six first quarter goals and 19 saves by Burke McManus.

RC will host both the semifinals and finals of the 2016 ODAC Tournament on May 7-8. Saturday's win assures that Roanoke will finish the regular season atop the ODAC standings for the 23rd time since 1981.

How it Happened
- Kevin Jackson setup Tyler McWilliams for a goal just two minutes into the game before Cameron Linsley struck just over a minute later to make it 2-0 Maroons.
- McWilliams scored with 8:15 to go in the quarter then Colin Mackenzie tallied a goal with 3:15 to go to put RC in front 4-0.
- Will Pilat made it 5-0 with 2:54 left on the clock then Mackenzie scored off a feed from Max Kraus 38 seconds later to make it 6-0.
- Washington and Lee got on the board with back-to-back goals to cut its deficit to 6-2 with 11:03 to go in the half. 
- Roanoke answered seven seconds later when Reid Kaminski won the face-off and fed Mackenzie for a goal. Jimmy Kuzma followed with a score 55 seconds later to make it 8-2
- After Linsley scored with seven minutes to go in the half, a Jonathan Henry strike with 5:56 to go sparked four unanswered goals by the Generals to end the half and send the teams to the break with RC leading 9-6.
- Jackson scored 1:26 into the third quarter to make it 10-6 before Henry and Max Huston scored to cut the RC lead to 10-8 with 4:30 to go.
- IV Stucker scored with just one second left in the third quarter to push RC's lead to 11-8 then scored to make it 12-8 with 9:30 to play in the game.
- W&L was able to make it 12-9 with five minutes to go but goals by Mackenzie at with 3:36 to play a Jackson strike less than a minute later sealed the win for the Maroons.
- McManus made 10 first-half saves and nine in the second to set a new career-high, while Wyatt Devine made 14 stops for the Generals.
- Mackenzie scored four times, while McWilliams, Jackson, Linsley and Stucker all finished with two goals and two assists.
- Washington and Lee outshot RC 42-38 and Roanoke held a 28-22 edge in groundballs. Kaminski grabbed five groundballs and won 10-of-18 face-offs.

Up Next: Roanoke will be off until May 7 when it hosts the ODAC semifinals against an opponent to be determined.
