The Lead: Fourteen different Maroons scored as Roanoke ran by Virginia Wesleyan 23-8 in ODAC Men's Lacrosse action on Saturday.

How it Happened
  • The Maroons jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead just over three minutes into the game, getting goals from IV Stucker, Colin Mackenzie and Will Pilat.
  • Roanoke would lead 7-0 after getting goals Joey Dishaw, Dylan Stein, Tyler McWilliams and Cameron Linsley in a five minutes span midway through the opening quarter.
  • RC led 8-1 after the first 15 minutes then got a goal from McWilliams 1:24 into the second stanza to make it 9-1.
  • After VWC made it 9-2, goals by McWilliams and Pilat just over a minute apart gave RC an 11-2 advantage with 4:36 to play in the half.
  • John Roth and Josh Currier tallied goals for VWC in the in the final minutes of the half to send the teams to the intermission with RC up 11-4.
  • Conn Curry scored at the 13:46 mark of the third quarter to push the lead to 12-4 and McWilliams would make it 13-4 with just under 10 minutes to go.
  • With the score 13-5, RC rattled off five goals in the final 4:19 of the third quarter, the last of which coming off the stick of Kevin Jackson with just one second to go that made the score 18-5.
  • Saturday marks the third time this season RC has scored 20 goals and the first time since 2013 it has done it in back-to-back games.
  • Pilat finished with four goals to become the 12th player in Roanoke Lacrosse history to reach 200 career points. Pilat has 44 points on the season and 201 for his career. 
  • McWilliams led RC with five goals and one assist for six points. Mackenzie had two goals and three assists for five points and Jackson had two goals and a pair of helpers.
  • Burke McManus made 13 saves in the cage for RC who outshot VWC 61-34 and won 22-of-34 face-offs on the day. Roanoke was successful on 26-of-30 clears, was 2-of-6 on man-up and held the Marlins scoreless on their six extra-man opportunities.
