Michael Hofmeister Named Roanoke Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Bill Pilat has announced Monday the addition of Michael Hofmeister as an assistant coach on his staff.

Hofmeister comes to RC after a five year stint as offensive coordinator at York College in Pennsylvania where he helped lead the Spartan program to unprecedented success. Under the direction of Hofmeister, York posted a 64-28 overall record, advanced to the NCAA Tournament for first time in school history in 2015 and won the program's first Capital Athletic Conference Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

In addition to running the Maroon offense, Hofmeister will be involved in all aspects of the program including spearheading all recruiting efforts.

"We are very excited to welcome Michael Hofmeister to the Roanoke Lacrosse program," said Pilat. "After receiving numerous quality candidates Michael rose to the top with his collegiate coaching experience and his assistance in taking York College to a conference championship and two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. " He will be working with our powerful Maroon offense as we work hard to replace some talented players who have graduated. With two offensive All-Americans returning, Coach Hofmeister has some great talent to work with in year one."

While at York, Hofmeister mentored 11 All-Americans, 24 All-CAC Players and three of the last five CAC Rookies of the Year. He inherits a Roanoke offense that averaged an ODAC best 13.5 goals per game last season. Second-Team All-American midfielders IV Stucker (35g, 17a) and Honorable Mention All-American Kevin Jackson (29g, 16a) will be back in the mix for the Maroons this season.

"I am looking forward to joining the Roanoke College community and being a part of the Roanoke College Men's Lacrosse family," said Hofmeister. "I am excited to begin working with our team and contribute to the history of the Roanoke College Men's Lacrosse team by sharing my experiences as a collegiate student-athlete and coach with these young men as they grow as individuals on and off the field. I would also like to thank York College and the Spartan Men's Lacrosse program for everything they have done for me over the course of the last five years."

A 2010 graduate of Eastern University in St. David's, Pa., Hofmeister played for the Eagles for four seasons, appearing in each contest during his career. Hofmeister was named a captain for his senior season and garnered all-conference honors as a midfielder. An Eastern University Alumni Award recipient, he received the Coaches Award in 2008 and the Heart Award in 2010.

The Maroons are coming off a 2016 season in which it extended its school record with its eighth consecutive season with 10 or more wins, finishing with 13 victories, with four of those victories coming against NCAA Tournament teams.  The Maroons finished atop the ODAC regular season standings for the 23rd time since 1981.
