The Lead: Roanoke would defend their home turf at Kerr Stadium for the second time in the past four days when they welcomed Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon. The game would be tied at the half, 6-6, but a big third quarter would put the Maroons in front to stay as they dealt the Battling Bishops their first loss of the season, 13-10.

How it Happened:

  • Ethan Caldwell and George Gilbert scored 20-seconds apart to give Roanoke a 2-1 lead. However, Ohio Wesleyan would score in the final minute to tie the game at 2-2 after one period of play.
  • After falling behind by two scores, Wyatt Whitlow scored off a feed from Trevor Stocks and then added another score from an assist by Luke Kammerman to make it 4-4. However, the Battling Bishops would answer with two more scores and Roanoke was down, 6-4, with less than two-minutes left before the break. Whitlow and Kammerman would each score int eh closing minutes and the game was tied, 6-6, at the half.
  • Ohio Wesleyan would take a two-goal lead for the third time coming out of the break. Sean Kennedy scored to spark a 4-0 Roanoke run that would see the Maroons take a 10-8 advantage.
  • After an OWU score, Gilbert set up Caldwell and then scored while up a man to close out the third quarter with a 12-9 edge.
  • The fourth quarter would see the defenses take center stage as each team managed just one goal leading to the Roanoke, 13-10, victory.
  • Taylor Lewis won his third of the season while recording 12 saves.
  • Whitlow and Gilbert each scored three times with Caldwell scoring twice. Kammerman add a pair of scores to go with three more assists, giving him 17 helpers in five games.

Up Next: Roanoke will begin Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday when they host Guilford College for a 2:00pm start.
