The Lead: The annual showdown between Roanoke and Hampden-Sydney would take place in Farmville on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons made the trip looking to pick up their third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season. Roanoke scored first and took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter. Another 3-2 Maroon period would send the game into the break with the visitors leading, 6-4. A big third quarter would see Roanoke build the lead, 10-5, and hold on for the final 15-minutes to pick up the ODAC win, 13-9.

How it Happened:

  • Luca Docking scored the first goal of the matchup but the Tigers responded to tie the game. Back-to-back goals by Luke Kammerman and Sean Kennedy would see the Maroons open up a two-goal advantage. Hampden-Sydney added a last-minute score to cut the RC lead to 3-2 after one period of play.
  • Leading by just a single goal, Kammerman assisted on an Ethan Caldwell tally and Trevor Stocks would make the Roanoke advantage three, their largest of the first half.
  • George Gilbert scored just 33 seconds into the second half and the score would remain 7-4 until the 7:13 mark of the third quarter.
  • The Tigers looked to wrestle away the momentum but Roanoke responded with a trio of scores to close the third frame. Caldwell added a pair of scores and Stocks would make it 10-5 with just 15-minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Kammerman gave the Maroons their largest lead of the afternoon, 11-5, with a little over 14-minutes left on the clock. Stocks would stop a 3-0 H-SC run and Kammerman added his third goal as Roanoke would hold on for the 13-9, road, win.
  • Kammerman and Stocks each had three goals and an assist while Caldwell made it a trio of Maroons with hat tricks. Carson Peck and John Dias each picked up five ground balls. Taylor Lewis was solid in goal, registering 23 saves on the 32 shots he faced.
