The Basics
Score: Roanoke 8 | Lynchburg 19
Records: Maroons 10-5 / 6-2 ODAC | Hornets 9-4 / 5-1 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke hosted their rivals from the University of Lynchburg on Saturday night for a matchup under the lights at Kerr Stadium. Roanoke scored first, but eight straight Hornet goals would put the Maroons into an 8-3 deficit at the half. Roanoke got to within five in the second half but Lynchburg would pull away for the 19-8, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

How it Happened:

  • Ethan Caldwell scored off a pass from Luke Kammerman as the Maroons took an early advantage. Lynchburg tied the game at the 8:47 mark and would add four more scores to take a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Hornets continued to control the action and netted the first three scores of the second frame, capping an 8-0 run over an almost 21-minute stretch. Luca Docking and George Gilbert would score in the final 2:13 of the half to cut the Roanoke deficit to 8-3 at the break.
  • A Gilbert goal at the 8:38 mark of the third period would be the lone Roanoke score as the Hornets carried a 13-4 edge into the final quarter.
  • Kammerman and Docking scored early in the fourth and when Brooks Klyver took the faceoff and found Wyatt Whitlow in transition, the Maroons had made it 15-7. Less than 2:00 later, Caldwell from Docking would inch the Maroons closer, 15-8. However, any thoughts of a comeback were put to rest with four more Lynchburg scores as the Hornets took over second place in the conference standings with the 19-8 win.
  • Docking, Gilbert, and Caldwell each scored twice while Docking, Kammerman, and Klyver all picked up assists. In goal, Taylor Lewis was under siege, facing 31 shots on his way to 12 saves.

Up Next: The Maroons travel to Shenandoah for their final regular season road game on Wednesday for a 7:00pm opening faceoff with the Hornets.
