Men's Soccer Remain among top Nationally in three categories

Roanoke remained in both the national stat rankings in addition to a #6 spot in the NSCAA South Region Poll announced today. The ODAC regular season champions will look to defend its title starting Saturday against Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Quarterfinals.
The Maroons, ranked sixth in the region poll, are 3-1-2 against teams ranked in the NSCAA Regional Polls, including a 1-0 win at #27 Salisbury on Oct. 4. They have a 9-3-2 mark against teams in their region.
As a team, Roanoke is still sixth in the country in goals against average and 20th in shutout percentage. Adam Thompson plays a major part in that, as he is ranked 55th in save percentage and 10th in goals against average nationally.
The Maroons offensive attack is led by Shaman Douglass with 18 points (6g, 6a), Chris Collins with 15 points (6g, 3a) and Michael Walter who is third with 14 points (6g, 2a). Their nine goals against Bridgewater in the season-finale was the third game with four or more goals and the most scored since 2004's season-opener vs. Ferrum.
The Maroons are 24-15-6 all-time in the series, but the Yellow Jackets have won two of the last three matches by a 2-1 score. The other was won by Roanoke on penalty kicks in last year's ODAC Quarterfinals. The Maroons are 18-12 all-time in the conference tournament and have won eight ODAC Titles, four coming since 2001.
The men will play Randolph-Macon at Kerr Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. following the women's match against Eastern Mennonite. The men lost to the Yellow Jackets, 2-1 at home on Oct. 1 in their only ODAC loss. The two goals were the most allowed by the Maroons all season. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
