Men's Soccer falls to #6 Christopher Newport, 2-1 in Non-Conference Action
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- Roanoke couldn't overcome a 2-0 early second-half deficit as they fell 2-1 to #6 Christopher Newport in non-conference action Tuesday evening. The Maroons fell to 5-3-2 while the Captains improved to 6-1 overall.
Andrew Bonorden got the Captains on the board in the first half as he scored off a Clif Kipper pass in the 32nd minute. Roanoke tried to answer and had many opportunities in the first half but they were unable to even the score.
In the second half the Captains' Nao Masuda scored off a pass from Brian Lybert in the 51st minute to put the Captains up 2-0.
Roanoke would not go away quietly as Jon Marc Winchester (Greensboro, NC, Leesville)scored in the 81st minute off an assist from Taylor Johnston (Charleston, WV, Capital)to cut the deficit in half. The next several minutes saw the Maroons put pressure on Captains' goalie Justin Wolfe but again they could not find the back of the net.

Johnston and Winchester both had two shots each to lead Roanoke. Kipper and Masuda also had two shots each to pace CNU in their sixth win of the season.
