Six Maroons Represented on the 2009 Men's Soccer All-ODAC Team
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College had six players represented on the 2009 Men's Soccer All-ODAC Team announced Wednesday afternoon. Four Maroons were named First-Team All-ODAC with one on the second-team and one tabbed honorable mention honors.

Chris Collins (Vinton, VA, William Byrd), Taylor Johnston (Charleston, WV, Capital), Cameron Lee (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)and Michael Stark (Newport News, VA, Menchville)were each named First-Team All-ODAC. For Stark and Johnston, it is the second-straight year on the first-team while Lee and Collins were named all-conference for the second-straight season. Kayvon Sarmadi (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)was named Second-Team All-ODAC for the first time in his career along with newcomer Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River), who was named honorable mention All-ODAC.
Collins, a senior midfielder from Vinton, led the Maroons in scoring this season as he battled most of the season with a back injury. The William Byrd product and an honorable mention All-ODAC selection a year ago, finished the season with 11 goals and four assists for 21 points, both ranked fifth in the ODAC this season. Collins also led the team and was fourth in the conference in shots (63), along with 29 shots on goal. Collins converted on both penalty kick attempts in addition to one to help advance to the ODAC Championship game over top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan. He also scored the only goal for Roanoke in the ODAC Championship along with a penalty kick with five minutes left to win the ODAC Quarterfinal match vs. Eastern Mennonite.
Johnston, a senior midfielder from Charleston, WV, scored four goals and led Roanoke (fifth in the ODAC) with five assists for 13 points on the season. He was third in scoring, shots (38) and shots on goal with 19. He scored a goal and dished out a season- best two assist in a win over Philadelphia Bible to earn a spot on the 2009 Roanoke Invitational All-Tournament Team. He had a goal and an assist against Randolph and converted off a penalty kick to help the Maroons defeat top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in a shootout to advance to the ODAC Championship game.
Lee, a sophomore defender from Roanoke, was a mainstay in the backfield for the Maroons all season. The Cave Spring product was named to the second-team for the second-straight year. He started in all 22 games under Scott Allison's squad, including all 42 matches over his first two seasons for the maroon-and-white. Lee scored his only goal of the season off a header from a corner kick in the regular season finale vs. Hampden-Sydney. His play in the back was instrumental, helping goalkeeper Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville)and the Roanoke defense with 10 shutouts on the season, just two behind the ODAC-leader.
Stark, a junior from Newport News, earned first-team honors for the second-straight season. A transfer last season from Div. I Coastal Carolina, Stark was named team captain and proved his worth as a vocal leader in the back for the Maroons. As a center back, he finished third on the team in scoring with six goals, five off of headers and totaled 31 shots, 11 shots on goal. He had three game-winners on the year, second on the team, including a header off a corner kicks with less than a minute remaining in the 3-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan during the regular season. Stark was named to both the 2009 Roanoke Invitational and the Cialella Soccer Classic All-Tournament Teams during the regular season.
Sarmadi, a senior from nearby Roanoke, earned second-team honors for the first time in his career. The Hidden Valley product scored nine goals on the season for 18 points, along with 44 shots, 21 shots on goal which were all ranked second on the team. Sarmadi, who started in 18 of 22 matches this fall, capped his first career hat trick with three goals against Bridgewater. He finished seventh in the conference in goals.
Travalini, a freshman from Delaware, had a strong first-year for the Maroons. The two-sport athlete at Roanoke started in 15 of 22 matches this fall, scoring four goals and dished out two assists for 10 points. He totaled 29 shots, including 18 shots on goal. He scored two goals and added an assist in ODAC-victory over Bridgewater. He scored a goal in the regular season victory over Virginia Wesleyan and the ODAC Semifinal win over the Marlins.

The Maroons finished 13-6-3 on the season and 7-2-1 in the ODAC… it's the third-straight season with at least 12 wins or more as the Maroons also advanced to the ODAC Championship game for the third-straight year. They finished with 10 shutouts on the season, the second-straight season with at least 10 shutouts.
Head coach Scott Allison finished his 24th season at Roanoke with 272 career wins, only four wins shy of passing Washington & Lee's Rolf Piranian (276) to become the all-time wins leader in ODAC History. Lynchburg's William H. Shellenberger has 371 career wins (1956-57, 59-88), but has only 144 since joining the ODAC in 1976. Virginia Wesleyan's Sonny Travis totaled 270 career wins from 1989-2006 and sits third on that list.
