Michael Stark named D3Soccer.com First-Team All-American in Men's Soccer
Senior Michael Stark (Newport News, VA, Menchville) was named to the 2010 D3Soccer.com Men's Soccer Div. III All-America Team announced this weekend. It's the first time in his career that the defender has garnered first-team honors. He earned NSCAA Second-Team All-American honors earlier this month for the second-straight season.
Stark, a team captain this fall, anchored a defense that finished the year ranked among the best in the nation in goals against average and shutout percentage. The three-year starter is an NSCAA All-American, First-Team All-South-Atlantic Region and First-Team All-ODAC selection for the third-consecutive season. He led the Maroons in scoring this season with 16 points and in goals with six along with six game-winners. The two-year team captain was second in assists (4), shots (31) and shots on goal (12). Stark was named ODAC Player of the Week twice, the first time a Maroon soccer player has garnered the weekly award more than once in a season. With this accomplishment, Stark joins former player and coach Scott Anderson '70 as the only players to earn All-American honors three times in a career. Anderson was a four-time All-American from 1966-69.
The Maroons finished the season, 13-3-3, 7-1-2 in the ODAC. Roanoke finished their home portion of the 2010 schedule with an 8-0-2 mark, which is the fourth undefeated home record in the 65-year history of the program. The defensive unit pitched 14 blank sheets, matching the famous 1993 team that advanced to the national quarterfinals and won a school-record 20 games.
