Late Goal Lifts Roanoke Over Shenandoah
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke defeated Shenandoah, 1-0 in its home-opener Friday evening at Kerr Stadium in the 2010 Roanoke Invitational. The Maroons now stand at 2-0, while the Hornets fell to 1-1 on the young season.

A late penalty shot by Jason Ryan (Radford, VA, Radford), with just three minutes left proved to be the game-winner for the Maroons. It was physical contest throughout with a 36 total fouls called.

All-American Michael Stark (Newport News, VA, Menchville) contributed five shots on the night and Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River) recorded two, one on goal, to keep the pressure on Shenandoah. The Maroons outshot the Hornets, 19-3, including a 5-0 shots on goal advantage. Roanoke's stifling defense held Shenandoah to a mere three shots in the match.

Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville)
picked up his first win of the season for the Maroons. Adrian Acosta took the loss for the Hornets, registering four saves in goal.

The Maroons will round up the Roanoke Invitational Saturday night following the Salem International-Shenandoah match. They will host Methodist, which improved to 2-0 on the year after defeating Salem International, 8-0 earlier in the day. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
