Roanoke College hosts Annual Men's Soccer Alumni Game
SALEM --- The Roanoke College Alumni knocked off the Spring 2012 version of the Roanoke Men's Soccer team, 5-3, in the annual alumni spring game at Elizabeth Campus Saturday morning during Alumni Weekend.

The weekend brought back some friendly competition of all ages from mid-20's to mid-40's. Goal scorers for the alumni were Tim Dunn '10, 1991 NSCAA All-American Grayson Prillaman '92, Two-Time All-ODAC selection Taylor Johnston '10, All-ODAC selection Mike Walter '09 and rookie alumnus, Andrew Howe ‘12. 2008 All-ODAC goalkeeper Adam Thompson ‘09 earned the win between the posts for the alumni while fellow rookie alumnus Casey Shotts ‘12 gave valuable time in goal.

For the 2012 Maroons Soccer Team, rising juniors Carl Leist and Johnny Hughes in addition to senior captain AJ Tierce tallied goals. Tierce was named Third-Team All-ODAC last fall, while Johnny Hughes, who was named MVP of the Roanoke Invitational last fall, earned ODAC Player of the Week on Sept. 6, 2011. Carl Leist was on the ODAC All-Academic Squad last fall.

The 2011 season marked the fifth-straight season of at least 10 wins in addition to being ranked in the NSCAA Div. III Top-25 poll twice. The Maroons were the 2011 ODAC Regular Season Champions for the first time since 2008. Head coach Scott Allison ‘79, who enters his 27th season on the sidelines for the men's soccer program, is only four wins shy of career win #300. He is the winningest men's soccer coach in the history of the ODAC.

The Roanoke College Men's Soccer program is a proud tradition. In 65 years of existence, the program has produced 22 seasons of at least 10 wins, nearly 500 program victories, eight ODAC Championships, five NCAA Tournament Appearances, 21 All-Americans and seven ODAC Players of the Year.

Any success we've had is in no small way attributed to the generosity of our alumni, our parents, alumni parents, and friends. For those of you that are interested to give this year, I urge you to consider a gift to the Maroon Club. Let's continue to support our men's soccer program as we continue to strive on becoming a national contender!

Be sure to stay tuned for the announcement of the 2012 fall schedule of the men's soccer program! For more information on the Maroon Club, please visit our website at www.roanoke.edu/maroonclub, or email maroonclub@roanoke.edu.
