Hughes Named ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Johnny Hughes (Salem, VA, Salem) was named ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon. He is the first Maroon soccer player since Michael Stark (Oct. 4, 2011) to earn the weekly honor.

Hughes, a sophomore, helped Roanoke start off the season 2-0 after defeating a pair of teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top-25 Preseason Poll from D3soccer.com. Hughes, who was named the MVP of the 20th Annual Roanoke Invitational, came off the bench to net the first goal against Richard Stockton as the Maroons' built a 3-0 lead. RC eventually won the game, 3-1. Hughes again tallied the first marker against 10th-ranked Emory University, helping pave the way to a 3-2 win over the Eagles.

Roanoke, ranked 13th in this week's NSCAA National Poll, will travel this weekend to New Jersey to play in the Stevens Tech College Cup Sept. 9-10. The Maroons will play Kean (1-1) on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by tournament host Stevens Tech (1-1) on Saturday at 8 p.m. Stevens Tech, tabbed #21 in the NSCAA pre-season poll, is currently eighth in the NSCAA East Regional Rankings.
