Men's Soccer Blanks Bridgewater, 3-0 in ODAC Action
SALEM --- Roanoke pulled away from Bridgewater with two second-half goals to earn a 3-0 win over Bridgewater in conference play. The Maroons improved to 12-3-1 overall, 7-0-1 in the ODAC. The Eagles drop to 6-9, 3-4 in conference action.

The Maroons, who are third in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings, dominated the contest on paper, with 10 corner kicks while the Eagles were blanked in that category. RC had 18 shots, 11 on goal, compared to the Bridgewater's four shots, all in the first half.

Johnny Hughes (Salem, VA, Salem) got the scoring underway in the third minute off a steal from an Eagle midfielder and scored into the right side to gain the early advantage. The Maroons defense held off the Eagle attack to keep the 1-0 halftime lead.

In the 61st minute, ODAC Player of the Week Drew Claytor (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley) scored off an assist from Peyton Lambert (Chesapeake, VA, Western Branch) from 30 yards out to take a two-goal lead. It was Clayor's third goal and Lambert's team-best sixth assist on the year.

Christopher Fisher (Morehead City, NC, West Carteret High School) scored the third and final goal in the 84th minute off a rebound shot from Robert Finn from nearly 40-yards out that slipped through the goalkeepers' hands. Fisher was at the right place at the right time to punch it in to give the final result.

Avery Makel (Nellysford, VA, Nelson County) (12-3-1) earned the win in goal for the Maroons. Travis Morris (6-9) collected seven saves for the Eagles.

The men will host Randolph College in their final regular season home match. It's scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
