Maroons Defeat Eagles in Men's Soccer, 2-0
SALEM – The #22 ranked Roanoke College men's soccer team picked up its ninth win this season after defeating Bridgewater College, 2-0 on Wednesday.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-1-1; 5-0-1 in the ODAC, while the Eagles picked up their first ODAC loss and have a mark of 5-4-3; 2-1-2 in the ODAC.

With the win, Roanoke remains one of three teams who are undefeated in ODAC play, including Randolph College who the Maroons face on Saturday evening.  Tonight's 2-0 win marks Roanoke's seventh shutout this season, and the fifth consecutive shutout.  The Maroons have a 23-1 all-time record against the Eagles, having won 11 meetings between the two teams.

All was fairly quiet at Kerr Stadium for most of the first half.  It wasn't until the 41st minute when Mark Strelow scored the game-winning goal into the left side of the net.  Strelow's goal was assisted by Marc Dinkel, who leads the team in that category with six assists this season.

Dinkel would find the back of the net on his own in the second half at the 64th minute.  A Bridgewater foul inside the box led to a penalty kick that Dinkel converted in the left side of the goal.  The Maroons held off the attacking Eagles for the remainder of the contest for the 2-0 victory.

Mark Strelow led the Maroons in shots with three, followed by Marc Dinkel and Patrick Bain with two each.  Six other Maroons tallied one shot apiece in the contest.  Cole Sinclair and Will Dooley split time in net and combined for three saves.

Roanoke outshot Bridgewater 13-5 in the contest, including a 8-3 mark in shots on goal.  The Eagles held the advantage in both saves (6-3) and corner kicks (6-5).

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 12th as they take on Randolph College in Kerr Stadium.  Randolph is ranked #25th in the latest d3soccer.com poll and #17th in the NSCAA poll.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
