Maroons Roll in 5-1 Victory Over Emory & Henry
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's soccer team put a first half flurry on Emory & Henry, winning 5-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.  The Maroons are now 8-2-2, 5-0-1 in ODAC play while the Wasps are 3-6-1, 1-4 in the ODAC.

The Maroons remain undefeated in ODAC play, matching their six game start in the ODAC from 2013.  The Maroons have a 20-1 all-time record against Emory & Henry, having won the last 18 meetings between the two teams.  Marc Dinkel, the most recent ODAC Player of the Week scored his eight goal of the season, having scored five goals in the last six games.

The Maroons scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game to jump out to an early lead.  Adam Yesbeck notched the first goal when Tyler Carbaugh sent a ball flying in from a corner kick, which was put away by Yesbeck via header.  Yesbeck's goal came at 8:36, but was then followed just 45 seconds later with Roanoke's second strike of the night.  Fortune Sibanda sailed a ball from the top of the box to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead at 9:15.   Seven minutes later, Robby Lentine crossed a ball from the right side of the goal, across the face of the goal, hit the inside left post and bounced into the right side of the net.  Lentine's goal was assisted by Marc Dinkel, as Roanoke led 3-0 in the first 16 minutes.

Roanoke's scoring slowed, but the Maroons found the back of the net once more in the first half, as Dinkel scored a goal of his own.  Dinkel tucked a ball away in the left side of the net, after fielding a pass from Sibanda.   The Maroons headed into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

The Maroons would score once more at the 57th minute as Cameron Picone tallied his first goal of the season, putting Roanoke ahead by five goals.  Emory & Henry didn't go down without a fight, as the Wasps' Jimmy Wilmouth tallied the team's only goal with 19 minutes left to play in the contest.  However, that would be the final goal of the game as the Maroons won 5-1 on Wednesday.

The Maroons finished the game with 27 shots, with Adam Yesbeck leading the pack with six.  Robby Lentine and Cameron Picone each finished with three shots, while five other players fired of two each.  The Maroons also had 15 shots on goal during the game.  Cole Sinclair and Nick Tadros split time in net for the evening, with Tadros tallying two saves.

Emory & Henry finished with just four shots, one each coming from Jimmy Wilmouth, Edgar Rivas, Zach Quest and Kenny Sterne.  Daniel Scharisch played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with 10 saves.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 11th as they take on Hampden-Sydney College.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
