Maroon's Swat Yellow Jackets, 8-1 in ODAC Action
SALEM, Va.--- Roanoke men's tennis cruised past Randolph Macon, 8-1 on Friday afternoon. With the win the Maroons improved to 7-5 overall, 6-2 in ODAC play.
In singles action, Roanoke's #1, James Lee (Radnor, PA, Radnor)and #2 Alex Lyons (Topsfield, MA, St. Johns Prep)both handled their opponents by a score of 6-1, 6-1. With the win, Lee improved to 8-4 on the year while Lyons climbed to 7-4. Playing in the third slot was Matt Nadolny (Fairfield, CT, Fairfield Ludlowe), who defeated Randolph Macon's Tripp Howerin 6-2, 6-1, as Matthew Delaney (Severna Park, MD, Severn)outlasted Chandler Weston 6-3, 6-2 in the #4 position. Ralph Migliarese (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)kept the Maroons going as he won his match 7-5, 6-3 in #5 singles.
In doubles play, Roanoke's #1 team made-up of Sam Sherrill (Southborough, MA, St. Mark's)and Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley)kept up their winning ways, defeating Kevin Lloyd and Job Merkel, 8-1. With the victory Sherrill and Roy improved their doubles record to 9-1, 5-0 in conference play. Expect to see Sherrill and Roy in the top-25 when the doubles poll comes out this upcoming week.
Lee and Lyons improved their ODAC doubles record to 2-0, with an 8-6 win over Chris Picarde and Tripp Howerin. Nadolny and Migliarese anchored the #3 doubles squad, wining 8-2 in the final doubles match of the day.
Next up for the men is a trip to Danville as Averett will play host on April 12th at 3:30 p.m.
