Men's Tennis Advance in ODAC Tournament with 6-3 Win over Emory & Henry
LEXINGTON, Va. --- Roanoke advanced in the ODAC Tournament with a 6-3 win over Emory & Henry Friday morning. The Maroons improved to 8-8 and will play in tomorrow's ODAC Semifinal. The Wasps ended their season at 15-6.
The #1 and #3 doubles combos took hard fought 8-6 decisions to open the match. Sam Sherrill (Southborough, MA, St. Mark's)and Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley)got all they could handle from Emory & Henry, but came out on top to win their seventh match over a conference opponent. They are 11-2 for the season.
Roy went three sets to outlast Chip Wintringham, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3 in #1 singles. He is 9-4 on the season, winning his third-straight match. Alex Lyons (Topsfield, MA, St. Johns Prep), Matt Nadolny (Fairfield, CT, Fairfield Ludlowe)and Ralph Migliarese (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)won in #3, #4 and #6 singles, respectively to help the Maroons advance. Migliarese won his fifth-straight contest of the season.
The Maroons will take on ODAC Regular Season Champion and #1 seeded Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC Semifinals tomorrow in Lexington. The Tigers (13-3) are the defending ODAC Tournament Champions and are currently 27th in the ITA national rankings. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Washington & Lee Outdoor Courts.
