Jon Roy Tabbed First-Team VaSID All-State in Men's Tennis
FERRUM, Va. --- Sophomore Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley)was named First-Team VaSID All-State Team announced this morning. With this honor, Roy becomes the first player at Roanoke to earn VaSID All-State recognition twice in a career.
Roy, who went 9-4 this season, had a 7-4 record in #1 singles, including a 4-2 post in the ODAC. A second-team selection on the VaSID All-State team as a freshman, he finished the season on a three-game win-streak. He teamed up with Sam Sherrill (Southborough, MA, St. Mark's)as the #1 singles duo went 11-3 this spring, 6-0 in conference matches. Following the season, Roy was named Second-Team All-ODAC in #1 Singles, but earned first-team honors in #1 Doubles. For his career, Roy has compiled a 18-8 record, 11-2 in conference matches.
The Maroons finished the year, 8-9 with a 5-4 mark in conference play. The men posted a 4-2 record at home and a #4 seed in the ODAC Tournament, where they defeated Emory & Henry in the quarterfinals. They fell t0 Washington & Lee in the semifinal round.
VaSID was formed in 1983, and is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of Virginia. The purpose of the organization is to promote college athletics at all four-year institutions.
