Roanoke Competes in ODAC Singles Championships
LEXINGTON, Va. --- Roanoke competed in the ODAC Singles Championships hosted by Washington & Lee on Sept. 13. The Generals claimed the championship on three of four singles flights at the W&L Courts over the weekend.
In the flight one bracket, Sam Sherrill (Southborough, MA, St. Mark's)fell, 7-5, 6-1 to Chip Wintringham of Emory & Henry. Jon Roy defeated Chase of Guilford, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round, but fell in the Quarterfinals to Hayden White of W&L, 6-1, 5-0.
In flight two, Tal Covington of Hampden-Sydney defeated James Lee (Radnor, PA, Radnor)in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. In the consolation round, he won three matches over Ben Nelson (Guilford), 8-3, Nelson (Lynchburg), 8-1 and Andre Arguimbau of Guilford, 8-4.
Alex Lyons (Topsfield, MA, St. Johns Prep)defeated Guilford's Brandon Johnson, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of flight three. He fell in the quarterfinal round to W&L's Tad Hatcher, 6-1, 6-1. Matthew Delaney (Severna Park, MD, Severn)fell to Bridgewater's Callow, 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round. He dropped a close decision to Emory & Henry's Brooks, 8-6 in the consolation match.
