Men's Tennis Splits Emory and Henry and Hampden-Sydney

Roanoke earned its first win of the season against Emory and Henry 6-3, but was defeated by Hampden-Sydney 8-1. The Maroons record now stands at 1-2 on the year while the Wasps fall to 6-6 and the Tigers improve to 4-1.

In singles competition, Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley) beat Chip Wintringham of Emory and Henry 6-2, 1-0. James Lee (Radnor, PA, Radnor) easily defeated Adam Henderson 6-0, 6-3. Roy and Lee were also able to defeat Wintringham and partner Matt Nelson in doubles competition 8-6. Also in singles, Charlie Graves (South Hamilton, MA, Hamilton Wenham Regional) achieved victory over Mike Young 6-4, 6-1. Matt Osman (Roseland, NJ, West Essex Regional) triumphed over Zach Eccher 6-1, 6-4. Osman and partner Alex Lyons (Topsfield, MA, St. Johns Prep) also brought home a win for the Maroons over Henderson and Young 8-6 in doubles competition.

In doubles, Roy and Lee edged by Hampden-Sydney's Rich Pugh and Tal Covington in a close match 9-8.

The Men's next game is on March 25 against Lynchburg. The away game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Lynchburg.
