Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Southeast Regional Championships
FREDRICKSBURG, Va. --- Roanoke competed in the ITA Southeast Regional this past weekend hosted by Mary Washington. The men collected six wins in the tournament, including a major doubles match victory.
In the B4 singles, Ian Webster earned his first collegiate win defeating Sky Masand, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. There he was defeated by Colin Jones, 7-6, (7-2), 6-1.
In B1 Singles, Alex Appelt knocked off Mike Chang (6-3, 6-4) and Kevin Calhoun, 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. Eventual singles champion, Will McArthur took down Appelt in a close contest, 6-4, 7-5.
In the singles championships, Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley) earned two victories, including one over Washington and Lee's Will Hall, 7-6, 7-6. He also beat Manrique Arrea, 7-6, 6-4.
This completes the fall season for the Maroons. They will begin their spring season in March during their spring break trip in Hilton Head, SC.
