Men's Tennis Wins Two On Spring Break Opener
HILTON HEAD, SC – The Roanoke College men's tennis team went 2-0 in the first day of matches during spring break on Monday, defeating St. John Fisher 8-1 and Elizabethtown College 7-2.  The Maroons have built a record of 4-1 through the first five matches, the team's best five match start since 2006, where the Maroons went 5-0.
 
Against Elizabethtown College, the men went 2-1 in doubles play.  Matt Kessler and Jacob Morris defeated Cole Turula and Ryan Caris, 8-2 in #1 doubles.  The Maroons won again at #3 doubles with Lewis Young and Chris Migliarese picking up the win over Matthew Hornbaker and Ben Geiger, 8-5.
 
In singles action, Roanoke lost just one pairing.  Joseph Ross played at #1 singles with a win over Turula 6-3, 7-5.  Kessler picked up the win at the #2 position, defeating Michael Cannon, 6-2, 6-4.  Morris won at #3 over Joe Kirchner with identical sets of 6-1, 6-1.  Migliarese took down Caris 6-2, 6-1 at the #4 spot.  Young picked up the final win for the Maroons with a win over Hornbaker, 6-3, 6-0.
 
In the 3:00 PM match against St. John Fisher, Roanoke swept the doubles play.  Ross and Morris played #1 doubles to defeat Sheldon Mitchell and Patrick McGrath by the score of 8-3.  Kessler and Migliarese paired up at #2 doubles to defeat Nathaniel Ligon and Jake Zarzycki, 8-4.  Graves and Young wrapped up #3 singles with an 8-3 victory over Kyle Stich and Adam Moran.
 
In singles action, Ross played #1 singles again, beating McGrath 6-1, 6-0.  Kessler played Mitchell to a tight 6-3, 7-5 victory in #2 singles.  Young topped Zarzycki to identical 6-4, 6-4 sets at #4 singles.  Roanoke's final win came from Teeples who defeated Stich in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 at #6 singles for the Roanoke victory.
 
The men return to action on Wednesday, March 5th as they take on Mount Union in the final match of the spring break trip.  That match is scheduled for a 12:30 PM start.
