HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Roanoke College Men's Tennis team starts off the Spring Break Tennis Fest with a record of 1-1. So far the team has defeated Carroll College and has lost to Baldwin Wallace University.
The Maroons kicked off the tournament on Sunday, March 6th at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort against Baldwin Wallace University. After the completion of all three doubles matches, Roanoke was going into singles down 0-3 with Morris/Kessler going down at #1 (8-2), Branham/Goins fell (8-0) at #2 and Teeple/Alvarado came short at #3 (8-5). Kessler fell at #1 to Harris with a score of 6-1, 6-1, Branham had a tough match at #3 against Patterson with a score of 6-1, 6-0, with Teeple falling short next at #5 to Katz 6-3, 6-1. Morris went down at #2 to Ganim 6-3, 6-4 and with two matches remaining both Shah and Alvarado came short with scores of (6-3, 6-0) and (6-3, 61). Maroons finished with a 0-9 loss.

Roanoke's second match was played on Tuesday, March 8th at the Hilton Head Resort at 2:00 pm against Carroll University from Wisconsin. The Maroons went ahead 2-1 after the completion of all doubles with Morris/Kessler winning 8-3 against CU at #1 and Teeple/Alvarado earning the second point at #2 with a score of 8-6. Kessler had a tough match at #1 against Jaeger with a score of 6-3, 6-2 and Goins had a tight one at #6 that reached at third set super breaker that ended in a tough loss with a score of 6-0, 2-6, 7-10. Morris and Branham also had a tight matches at #2 and #5 that came down to a third set tie breaker with both Maroons coming out victorious (6-2, 5-7, 10-8) and (6-2, 3-6, 10-6). Teeple sealed the victory for the Maroons at #4 by giving them the fifth point with a score of 6-4, 6-1. Alvarado concluded his match with a victory at #3 (6-4, 6-4) allowing the Maroons to walk out with a 6-3 victory and their first of the spring 2016 season.
