Maroons Host DI and DII Schools at the Roanoke Invitational Challenge

Event: Roanoke Invitational Challenge (DI and DII Invite)
Location: Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse, Salem Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke College track & field teams opened competition this season by hosting the Roanoke Invitational Challenge. The meet is the first of a pair of events with Friday featuring the Maroons in action against NCAA Division I and II teams: UNC-Pembroke, Lenoir-Ryhne, and Mount Olive.

Women's Highlights:

  • In the High Jump, Alison Moreau posted a third place effort when she finished with a height of 4'11"
  • The Pole Vault featured a pair of teammates finishing in the top three. Louise Tester finished runner-up at 9'6.25" besting Claire Trotto by six inches.
  • Grace Fowler finished with a distance of 36'9.50" to earn a top three finish on the Shot.
  • With a time of 29.65, Lily Lippert was fifth in the 400 Meters.
  • The relay team of Lippert, Moreau, Hannah Koepfinger, and Emily Ball finished behind the team from Lenoir-Rhyne in the 4x400 with a final time of 4:29.81.

Men's Highlights:

  • Chamberlain Zulauf crossed the line 1st in the 3000 Meters with a final time of 9:25.12 while teammate Timothy Hoffstaetter would claim 4th in 9:46.25.
  • Pole Vaulter Jackson Smith would post a final height of 11'9.75" to finish runner-up.
  • In the 60 Meter Hurdles Xavier O'Brien posted a final time of 8.68 to finish 4th to a winning time of 8.35.
  • Daniel Jewell earned a top five finish in a field of 11 with a time of 2:09.02.

Up Next: The Maroons will host a second day of competition in the Roanoke Invitational Challenge when they welcome DIII and NAIA schools to the Field House on Saturday.
