Roanoke Excels at Noke Elite Meet

The Basics
Event: Noke Elite Meet  
Location: Kerr-Cregger Field House, Salem Va.

The Lead: The Kerr- Cregger Field House would host its third indoor track meet in the past eight days. The Noke Elite Meet would feature teams from five different schools coming to Salem to compete with the Maroons men's and women's track & field teams. Berry, Methodist, Pfeiffer, Piedmont, Roanoke, and Southern Virginia competed in the one-day meet.

Women's Highlights:

  • The reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, Alison Moreau would take the High Jump event with a height of 5'3" while Kaitlyn Nguyen would finish runner-up at 5'1:. Moreau would return later in the day take first place in the 60 Meters with a time of 8.17, just .20 seconds ahead of teammate Haylee Gamble.
  • In the 200 Meters, Moreau would add her third individual win of the day when she finished first in a 1-2-3-4-5 finish for the Maroons. Gamble was second, by .01 of a second over Hannah Koepfinger with Taylor Poole and Lily Lippert rounding out the top five.
  • After coming in third and then second in the two meets last weekend, Grace Fowler added a first place finish to her season with a distance of 36'5.50" in the Shot Put.
  • Cammi Winston earned a pair of first place finishes. In the Triple Jump a distance of 34'10.25" was enough to finish 6.25" ahead of Katelyn Wiley. Winston moved to the track and beat the field in the 60 Meter Hurdles (9.88), just .06 ahead of runner-up Koepfinger.
  • Lippert earned a close win in the 400 Meters when she crossed the line in 1:03.11, just .41 of a second over Emily Ball.
  • Zoe Dunlap picked up the final individual win for the women when she bested the field in the 800 Meters, 2:27.20.
  • Ball would join Mikayla Hefferon, Savannah Gheen, and Lauren Henson to wrap up the meet with a win in the 4x400 Relay in a time of 4:25.36.

Men's Highlights:

  • The Pole Vault would see a 1-2 Roanoke finish. Corbin Turner would win the event with a height of 12'3.50" with Hunter Bohon finishing runner-up.
  • Joseph Kenney would edge out teammate Jared McIntyre in the Triple Jump when Kenney posted a jump of 39'7.75" to best McIntyre's distance of 39'7.25" by just .50 of an inch. It was the second runner-up finish form McIntyre who also placed second in a tie with Zach McNeil when the teammates posted 5'6" in the High Jump.
  • Hurdler Xavier O'Brien set a record last week when he posted a blistering 8.45 in the 60 Meter Hurdles last week, returned to the winners circle with a time of 8.56. O'Brien returned later in the afternoon to win the 200 Meters by .35 of a second when he finished first with a time of 23.40.
  • For the second week in a row, Cooper Neeble would earn a first place finish in the 3000 Meters. Neeble wired the field with a time of 8:51.76, an almost 12 second win over his nearest challenger.

Up Next: Roanoke is scheduled to host their final events of the indoor season in two weeks when they host the annual Finn Pincus Invitational on February 19 and 20.
