Maroons Compete At Washington and Lee Carnival

The Basics
Event: Washington and Lee Carnival  
Location: Lexington Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke College outdoor track & field teams kicked off their 2021 season with a trip to Lexington to compete in the Washington and Lee Carnival. Athletes from Bridgewater, Roanoke, Shenandoah, and Washington and Lee competed in the one-day event.

Women's Highlights:

  • Alison Moreau would finish ahead of Lily Lippert in both the 100 and 200 meters. In the 100, Moreau posted a time of 13.03, just .04 ahead of runner-up Lippert. In the 200, Moreau would take the event in a time of 27.22 with Lippert posting a 27.38 and Haylee Gamble rounding out the top three at 27.39.
  • Lippert added a third runner-up finish when she finished .31 second behind teammate Emily Ball in the 400 meters.
  • Hannah Koepfinger won a pair of events. 1:06.53 in the 400 meter hurdles followed by a winning distance of 5.13 meters in the long jump.
  • In the pole vault, Claire Trotto finished with a height of 3.07 meters.
  • Caitlin Culhane added a final individual win for the Maroons in the hammer throw with a distance of 39.65 meters.

Men's Highlights:

  • Sam Crawford would best the field in the 200 meters with a blistering time of 22.44. Blake Morin added a third place finish with 23.13.
  • Crawford returned to win the 400 meters by a half a second over his nearest competitor at 49.94.
  • In the 110 hurdles Greyson Cornett finished third with a time of 17.00.
  • Another top three finish belonged to Aaron Rogers with a time of 1:04.12 in the 400 hurdles.
  • Corbin Turner posted a mark of 4.03 meters in the pole vault for a runner-up finish.
