The Basics

Event: Vertklasse Meeting

Location: High Point University

The Lead: The Roanoke College outdoor track & field team traveled to High Point University to compete in the Vertklasse Meeting this Thursday and Friday. In a highly competitive meet, athletes from 34 different teams and unattached athletes competed in the two-day event.

Men's Highlights:

Thursday:

  • On Thursday night Cooper Neeble posting the highest finish for the Maroons with a second place finish in the Men's Steeple Chase.  His blistering time of 9:38.91 is the top time in the ODAC by over nine seconds and places him 15th in all DIII.
  • Corbin Turner in the Men's Pole Vault finished fifth overall with a clearance of 4.06m.

Friday:

  • Men's 4x100m relay team of Troy Crawley, Xavier O'Brien, Blake Morin, and Sam Crawford finished third overall with a time of 43.38 seconds.
  • O'Brien would post a top 10 finish in the Men's 400M hurdles with a time of 57.83.  That time currently puts him second in the ODAC.
  • In the Men's 200m dash Crawford would finish seventh overall with a blistering time of 22.15 seconds.  That time currently puts him second in the ODAC and 20th in all DIII.
  • The Men's 4x400 relay team of Cameron Harris, Aaron Rogers, Brandon Justice, and Crawford finished sixth with a time of 3:31.78.
  • In the Men's Long Jump Link Hammerschmidt finished ninth overall in the event with a distance of 6.67m.  That distance puts him second in the ODAC.

Women's Highlights:

Thursday Night:

  • In the Women's High Jump Alison Moreau finished third in the Women's HJ clearing 1.45m while teammate Kaitlyn Nguyen finished seventh overall with a clearance of 1.45m.
  • Chloe Van Duyne posted a top-three finish in the Women's Pole Vault clearing 3.00m.

Friday:

  • The Women's 4x400 relay team of Haylee Gamble, Mikayla Hefferon, Lily Lippert, and Emily Ball finished fifth overall with a time of 4:07.17.  That is currently the top time in the ODAC. 
  • Hannah Koepfinger would post a top 8 finish in the Women's LJ with a distance of 5.13m.
  • The Women's 4x100m relay team of Gamble, Moreau, Hefferon, and Lippert finished sixth overall with a time of 50.01.
  • Savannah Gheen would post a personal record in the Women's 100m dash going 12.99 seconds. 
  • In the women's 200m dash Moreau would lead the Maroons with a time of 26.53 followed by Gamble (26.60) and Hefferon (26.61).  All of those times are currently in the top 8 of the ODAC.
  • In the Women's Hammer Throw Abbey Gajtkowski would post a personal best in the event going 40.59m.  That distance puts her second in the ODAC followed by teammate Caitlin Culhane throwing 39.21m.
  • In the Women's Triple Jump Cammi Winston would finish in the top 10 with a distance of 10.66m which puts her in the top eight of the ODAC standings.
