The Basics

Event: VMI Winter Relays

Location: Lexington, VA

The Lead: The Roanoke track & field teams traveled to Lexington to compete in the, two-day, VMI Winter Relays. The Maroons would step up their level of competition when they competed in a field that included NCAA DI, DII, and DIII teams.

Men's Highlights:

  • Heptathlon: Hunter Bohon would set a school record of 4020 points on his way to a 2nd place finish.  Bohon would win a pair of the events, 6.26m (20'6.5") would pace the field in the Long Jump and his 17.3m (5'8") in the High Jump would net 1st place points. A 2nd in the 60m (7.51) and 3rd in the 1000m (2:57.34) helped to solidify the runner-up finish.
  • 400M: Samuel Crawford claimed an 8th place finish with a time of 51.16 and returned in the 200M, crossing the line in 22.92.
  • 3000M: A trio of Maroons would finish in the top 15. Cooper Neeble crossed 4th at 8:41.43 while Chamberlain Zulauf posted a time of 9:07.67 just ahead of Peter Smith, 9:08.67.
  • 500M: Roanoke would finish back-to-back when Miles Enstrom (1:15.10) would finish just .03 of a second clear of Cameron McDonald.

Women's Highlights:

  • Pentathlon: Hannah Koepfinger would set personal bests in 4 of the 5 events on her way to a 4th place finish. Her 2910 points place 17th nationally in NCAA DIII to this point of the season. Koepfinger finished the 800m in 2:31.91 for a runner-up finish. 9.69 in the 60m Hurdles was 4th as was her 5.27m (17'3.5") in the Long Jump.
  • High Jump: Eleanor Hinckley was 8th with a height of 1.50m (4'11").
  • 400M: Haylee Gamble finished in 1:01.85 for an 8th place finish.
  • Pole Vault: Chloe Van Duyne was 9th with her vault of 3.05m (10'0").
  • 500M: A 5th place effort for Lauren Henson (1:28.68) was followed by Savannah Reid (1:34.57) in 7th.

Up Next: The Maroons will be back in the Cregger Center on Saturday when they host the Joe Larocco Invitational in the field house.
